Learn the skills necessary to ride with confidence on the road.
The Cycling Skills for Commuters course is free and available to Mosman residents 16 years of age and over who can already ride a bike and want to improve their skills and proficiency.
The course will cover the following topics:
- An initial setup and safety check of your bike
- Practice of basic cycling skills
- Cycling skills for a variety of situations
- Understanding the road rules for cyclists
- Dealing with road hazards such as tight turns and maneuvering through narrow spaces
- Correct braking and emergency stopping
- Riding with one hand for indicating
- How to identify safe and quiet routes away from main traffic areas
- Understanding gearing and correct pedal speed and technique
- How to check tyre pressures and basic bike maintenance
- Riding in low traffic areas for commuting and short trips to shops, etc
What to bring
A roadworthy bike in good working order, helmet with Australian Standards sticker inside, snacks, water, sunscreen and suitable clothing (no thongs or sandals).
