Event Description

I have organised a ride on New Years Eve from Meadowbank Wharf to Clarkes Point Woolwich to view the 9pm fireworks. I will return after the early fireworks but others may stay for the midnight show. For details please see the Bike North calendar and click on the link to the NYE Fireworks ride

I had entered this Event here a couple of weeks ago, but deleted it until I was sure all arrangements were in place. Now it is "good to go" and we have found a nice affordable Thai restaurant who will accommodate bike riders for dinner.

Please contact me (details on BN calendar) if you are joining this ride as I need to let the restaurant know definite numbers.

This latest looks like it will only need about an hour's battery life for the trip home. Is that the way you see it MB?

Dabba,

Yes I think that is true. I have to allow for the worst-case scenario, not the ideal situation, even though the ideal is possible/probable. I also would like to allow an hour for getting from the restaurant to Woolwich. I am saying 3 hours to allow for unforeseen circumstances such as flat tyres or other incidents. However, if you only had 2 hours battery life, it would be OK, I guess, if one or two people had to turn off their lights when flat tyres were repaired, for example. As long as most of us have extra power.

Only a 12km ride each way with the ride to the feed done in daylight (?) - less than an hour needed for lights burning, or am I missing something?

No, you're not missing something. I confess to overkill, but just don't want anyone to come under-prepared. Sorry, I am a bit of a worrier. :-)

Just follow these few easy steps.

The lighting requirements are basically very simple:
(a) two independent front lights and two independent rear lights must be available for
use (i.e. attached to the bicycle or carried);
(b) one of each must be fixed to the bicycle or to a secure accessory (eg a rack or
saddle bag);
(c) at night or at times of low visibility at least one front light (of fixed beam) and one
rear light must be illuminated;
(d) a rear red reflector must be permanently fixed to the bicycle; and
(e) a reflective vest (or equivalent for a rider of a recumbent) must be carried and
must be worn at night or at times low visibility.

Worries over. ;-)

Now, where was there some likely nearby accommodation (pub, etc) for the start?
Comment by Dabba on December 22, 2009 at 4:12pm
Neil, you forgot the bloke walking out the front waving the lantern! ;-)

I'll catch the later train home as you suggested MB.

Never mind Kylie, there will be other times!

In looking at my UBD maps, they show a cycleway alongside the railway line between Meadowbank and Strathfield stations. I can remember seeing some of it when travelling to Sydney, but not that extent. Is it a pie in the sky cycleway or does it exist?
