Event Description

In response to the perpetually negative portrayal of cyclists in Sydney there is going to be a "Rally for Safe Cycling" held.

If you have an interest in being safe on our roads then you are invited to attend. I urge ALL cyclists irrespective of type, age, sex to come along and support each other in a mass ride. (see route here). refer back for regular updates - stay tuned!

meeting went well....many points raised which may led to route being altered....stay tuned and spread the word. Also we need some people to attach flyers to cyclists bikes. You can do it at the bike parking at work or attach one under the brake cable anytime you see a parked bike. Let me know you are willing and I can email the flyer for you to print out. cheers Adam.

Does anyone mind if I send this to Waratahs (www.waratahs.com.au)   website -- hopefully they might give it some space and we may get some more participants --just asking as do not want to tread on any toes

that's great, the bigger the coverage the better

Adam, Can you place/attach the flyer here for easy download and printing? And possibly making an easy URL for distribution.

Waratahs Have agreed to promote it closer to the event - 150 members of the waratahs but over 750 raced with them last year- on average 120 riders race every Sunday morning at various venues - Dropping flyers under their wipers and having a n information desk at events close to the date could garner more support. Many riders from other clubs ride with Waratahs and hopefully ripple effect could get it out there -as they get info and take it back to there clubs - They are also sponsored by a number of bike shops that may get on board with flyers or posters in their shops .

I am happy to take on board flyer distribution at least at a couple of events --

What average speed are you expecting to travel?  Will there be a slower group?

I imagine the pace to be slow to very slow if loads of riders turn up. Most likely there are going to be a few stop points along the route (e.g. SHB northern stairs might be included). It is hard to be absolute as there are many unknowns, but if road rules are followed (two abreast etc...) then the pace is bound to be slower rather than fast after all we don't want any accidents on a rally for "safe" cycling :-)

A quick estimate shows that route to be close to 50 km, which might be a bit ambitious. I would be surprised if it took much less than the four hours to get everybody around the route riding two abreast and stopping at lights, etc. Perhaps shorten it by coming down Concord Rd or Silverwater Rd?
