Here is a link to an ABC Documentary on a short bike ride through the Americas. Some might think he is crazy, I was inspired by the little bits I watched. Will sit & watch it all tonight. And you thought a 40km commute was crazy?

The fun police have said no again :-( I'll check it out tonight, sounds good. Might have some tips for a cross country trip of France I might be in the middle of planning...

Want any tips?

Be advised that if you follow a certain guidebook, and there are inconsistencies, N/A didn't do that bit ... :-)

As it happens similar planning going on here... have copy of Lonely Planet "Cycling in France" to hand right now.

Across France probably not for me. Not in one trip anyway.

I shall focus on childhood places - Haute Savoie, and where my family originates- Burgundy. Mebbe ride some of Normandy too.

Nor those bits.

N/A recommends Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon, and the Pyrenees. But avoid the south of France in June and July; very hot!

Prolly best to avoid cycling in France during the July holiday season.
Roads busier and accomm (if needed) booked out. I daresay I shall do some of my touring in June and some in Sept.

I think June is OK most places, although it could indeed be that the S gets a bit warm.

Never had a problem finding room when camping at anytime over summer. Of course, from early September onwards, tourist facilities, including camping grounds, begin their off-season closedown.

If you pick your area, it is hard to notice any extra holiday traffic -- as long as you stay away from where the TdF happens to be. I always found France's mountainous regions delightfully quiet as well as stupendously scenic.
