Cycling in Sydney Australia
This morning on 2GB:
Jones talks about David Hannan, owner of a business park on Bourke St
in Alexandria, saying he is fronting a legal challenge against the
City of Sydney, claiming the Bourke Rd Cycleway has been constructed
in 'the wrong spot.' Jones says that Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of
Sydney has agreed to a retrospective consultation & approval process
through an independent consultant 'because there are elections
coming.' Jones tells people to have their say, telling them how to
voice their opinion and to also send their submission to Hannan 'in
case someone in city hall is playing funny games' because he 'wouldn't
be surprised.' Jones repeats his advice to also send submissions to
Hannan 'so they don't fiddle with this at city hall' because 'we don't
trust them'

cycleway can email prioritycycleways@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or leave

Permalink Reply by Sub Optimal on February 22, 2012 at 6:00pm Thanks for the tips guys. Any advice on avoiding Oxford str if I'm coming down College Str cycleway. Oxford is the scariest bit of my cycle from Circ Quay (that and trying to get to the College Str cyclepath from CQ)
I sent my own letter, explaining how and when I use the Bourke Rd cycleway. I said that it made cycling in that area much better, and that more of the same is needed.
I stressed that since it's been built I'm spending my money in the CoS Bunnings rather than the Randwick Bunnings.

Early Mon. last = 9th April, 1:07am in fact, I set my alarm clock to catch the MotoGP/ Stoner etc.
I listen, sometimes, to the Rugby League on 2GB thus my radio was on that station. When testing the volume early Monday, the on air presenter was having a full on rant about cycle lanes & cyclists in Paddington, Pyrmont (2GB territory) & Leichhardt.
With Paddington he claimed that businesses are suffering lost income, particularly restaurants, because of the cycle lanes & lost parking spaces equalled less customers?
In Pyrmont he said virtually no cycles used the bike lanes & pedestrian traffic was so dense that it was they that used the bike lanes too?
He then switched to the Leichhardt area calling campaigning pro bike Laners "cyclodroids" wearing hemp clothing with matching hemp shoulder bag?
I was only listening for a few minutes so I didn't get his name? Being the Easter holiday weekend the normal roster may have not been in play?
Via 2GB site maybe 1 of these 3 ? Mike Williams, Michael McLaren or Ben Fordham.
They usually get most of their talk back fodder on the cheap from our main newspapers. I tried to find info on the Paddo thing but nil so far?
All I did find was a Telegraph article dated 7th April 2012 that the State Govt. was forming a joint committee with Syd. Council. The numbers would be 4 State reps & 3 City reps. Of note is the State has the majority.
It went on to say if Council passed on the arrangement then State Govt. would go it alone.
It further stated in the article that no further bike lane extensions or traffic route changes would be approved unless assessed by the new committee. This continues on from O'Farrells big picture plans to cater for all users of the City of Sydney as reported over recent months etc.

I'm scratching my head wondering where the cycle lanes are in Paddington?
