Hi, should preface that this query may be journalism-related.

But in the wake of those Cranks stores closing, I was wondering if there had been any other LBS locations that have closed recently?

There was one in Neutral Bay.

Two KOM (King of the Mountains) places closed, was it last year? One in Neutral Bay one in Crows Nest.

Thats the joint I was thinking of

Their crows nest store did them in. They were a victim of their own growth.

What is more interesting is going to be the bike companies buying the shops... happening and more will happen.

Meaning, a marque like Specialized buying and operating a shop?

Or Giant or Trek... What we are seeing is a version of what happened in the automotive industry 10 years ago.

Didn't Atelier de Vélo get bought/re-possessed by their supplier?
You should speak to Israel at Bike Brain for another angle on this story. His shop originally didn't sell bikes, but was a bike mechanic shop with a few smal consumables for sale (tubes etc.). And now he is the on-the-ground agent for Wiggle, stocking a single item of their stock so people can touch it and smell it before they then order it through Wiggle and pick it up at his store.

It seems like a smart route through the whole LBS vs OBS thing.

Bike Brain are awesome. Only workshop I've come across where they lend you a courtesy bike, wish every shop did this!

Bike Brain have a for lease sign in the window of their shop.

Hopefully he's expanding and not disappearing! Lovely chaps there.
