I haven't done this ride, but I've ridden and worked in the area. The last time that I rode through there (Sep 08) the roads generally were narrow and busy, with Broke Rd being potholed for much of the area in Pokolbin. I hope that they have been able to arrange for road closures or traffic control of some description. Drunks, narrow roads with fast traffic and bikes usually don't make a nice blend.
I think this is the first year it has been on. I believe it is laps of a 19km circuit, no doubt to try to minimise the traffic problems, but I'm not sure about doing the same loop five times.
How has it achieved "Classic" status if this is the first running? Organisers are a bit "hopeful", I'd say. And unless the roads have improved since I was last in the Hunter -- Darrell thinks not and he's in a position to know (you didn't mention coal trucks, mate) -- this ride will not last long enough to achieve that status.
Coal trucks are very unlikely in this area because the mines are further up the valley. There could be semi trailers carrying wine though. Broke Rd is the busier road taking traffic through from Cessnock to Singleton/Denman and beyond, but unless the freight is wine related most semis take the main drag through to Branxton and then on to the New England Highway.
