OK, so based on the number of fines issued each year, it shows that fining people doesn't work. Time to start crushing cars. Or introduce metered fines https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/wa/match-traffic-fines-to-incomes-...

Perhaps compulsory bicycle use as well.

Fining people works as a deterrent - so most people (I assume) don't do things that would incur a fine as they don't want to pay a fine.

Motorists who get fined regularly are not responding to that punitive measure - so obviously there needs to be some other way to punish offenders that they will respond to.

When you get to 20 and 30 infringements/offences and you still apply the same basic set of rules well... you seriously can't expect it to work at that point.

Someone with such little regard for very easy to follow rules should be staring down the barrel of an extended stay in custody. I'm not a fan of locking up more people for longer, but when it sends a message, and gets the few who don't respond to the current measure to take notice then it is a net positive outcome for society.

Confiscate the vehicle (regardless of whether the driver owns it) and sell it at the police auctions. Revenue to the state. The driver then cops a double whammy if it's someone else's vehicle. Cost of replacement and having to face the owner after doing dumb things.

It's the only way to do it seemingly.

Maybe the listed prices (fines) should be for the first fine. The second fine, regardless of whether its a repeat of the initial fine, is double the price of a first fine for that infringement, and so on!

Is that for every offence on the statutes? Like riding on the footpath? Not wearing a foam hat?

Good question! Might need a bit of workshopping on that! How about only for infringements which are potentially life threatening?

The opening sentence was enough to turn my stomach. Just a trivial matter
