Cycling in Sydney Australia

I found myself thinking about this while slugging up Piriwiri St (sp!) towards Mosman this afternoon.
Right leg push down, suck in air, left leg push down, blow out air.
All the way up.

Does everybody do this?
Or am I the only one thinking about it?

Yes, alright then, you've had a few good ones lately and no-one has acknowledged them, so I give you credit for the RAM..   though really the fish oil capsule was the one that was really inspired.

(snigger)

I remember that RWC. Australia got booted out before the Kiwis. Can't say the something happened this year - as only Australia got booted out. I remember who was responsible for that, just not the scoreline. Doesn't matter much now anyway.

So Mr O' what did you sing this year?
Once a hopeful rugby team
Travelled to a nearby land
Under the flag with the right number of stars
And they winced as they watched
And counted up the tries we scored
You'll play the game to decide four and three

Wilting Quade Cooper
Thought he was super
Genia is quick
But he needs to have the ball
And they winced as they watched
And counted up the tries we scored
You'll play the game to decide four and three

Ah I could keep going but I'm riding in the morning
Take a look at sus's profile pic.
As for what I sang ... nope, not that.
Kylie said something earlier about breathing out forcefully being one technique when climbing. I read that somewhere too. It is supposed to cause a sort of elastic rebound in your breathing muscles or chest that increases inflow on the next breath in. May be nonsense but I do it when climbing and getting to the very deep breath stage.

This is true but there are downsides to this.

The more your force air out of your lungs (down close to your residual volume - RV), the greater you compress all the small airways. In doing this, two things happen; some airways get 'blocked off' so the extra effort is a waste of time, and; while you do 'gain' from the extra recoil of the lungs & chest wall, this is energy you have to put in anyway, so the work of breathing isn't any less - you can't get something for nothing! :)

You will find that when exercising vigorously, you will get close to this limit anyway. The best advice is to just let your body do the work and try not to think about it too much. :)

I meant 'breathing out fully' rather than 'forcefully'.
