Hi, looking for flattish quietish ride for family. Youngest is six and still on a 16 inch bmx but can keep going. Happy to drive out an hour or so and then ride for a couple of hours. Thoughts appreciated. Cheers

All these are off road perfect for family rides:
Narrabeen lagoon circuit.
Iron cove circuit.
Cooks river.
Homebush/Olympic park.
Ermington nature trail.

And of course the sydney spring cycle.

A variation on the Cooks River theme for children that like planes is to park on Coward Street and then ride the path around the airport. Cross the canal into Tempe Park and continue to the Princes Hwy. Then either cross Princes Hwy and follow the Cooks Rivers path as long as you like, or head toward Brighton-Le-Sands. To do that, cross the river using the Princes Hwy bridge shared path into Cahill Park. Then Levey Street and the shared path along Marsh Street, using the  underpass to cross Marsh Street and on to a nice ride around the foreshore on shared paths through Kyeemagh.

Narrabeen is meant to be brilliant but havent done it yet. Manly beach to Shelly Beach is fun during the week. Or you can cycle further up along the lovely quiet path that goes up along Burnt Creek Ridge Road and the Golf Course. Its not long but does go along a wooded creek for a ways. Could be just the right duration for the little one. Connects to Manly via Kenneth Road and so no need to get involved in traffic anywhere along its length.

Thanks for all the suggestions, we parked on Coward and got to Brighton le Sands and back plus a couple of detours in the end. Maybe 20kms. Not bad.
