Bill it was a mega bad day.
There are some things that get through but very very few.

Permalink Reply by Paul on September 22, 2012 at 11:06am Yes, I have punctured my SMPs three times. Twice it was a building tack, and the third it was a large piece of glass with a needle like point on it.
I should point out, however, that 3 punctures in 4 years is not bad! My current set of SMPs, according to BikeJournal:-
700 x 28C Schwalbe Marathon Plus, front, 9,338 km (no punctures)
700 x 28C Schwalbe Marathon Plus, rear, 8,274 km (1 puncture)
Permalink Reply by Adrian Carter on September 22, 2012 at 10:48pm Only once. Rainy night, very sharp piece of glass, tyre pretty worn down - though not yet down to the blue kevlar.
Permalink Reply by Jasesly on September 22, 2012 at 11:25pm sorry to hear about the bad day...just make sure you go out and have a good one tomorrow.
and in answer to the question. yes
large piece of glass, conical shape.
I had seen the glass and opted to ride through it as the other option was to swerve into the path of bus just behind me. I thought at the time will have to check that when i stop...then didn't
half way up the first hill on my journey home that afternoon it got pushed it through the blue stuff. I'd probably ridden about 20k's with it wedged into the wheel before it got through to the tube. If i'd checked the tyres when i got to work like i thought i should, i would've been ok.
Permalink Reply by Neil Alexander on September 23, 2012 at 7:07pm That looks like a teensy-weensy little samurai sword!
Now why would a teensy-weensy little samurai leave that lying around on the road??

Permalink Reply by Samuel Russell on September 23, 2012 at 3:15pm Long slivers of wet glass. Also the years old tyre pushing a broken bead through its own side wall. I'm okay with this.
Permalink Reply by Paul Martin on September 23, 2012 at 5:07pm They are about as puncture 'resistant' as you can get but that doesn't mean they're puncture proof (I'm not aware of any pneumatic bike tyres that are, actually) and if you're going to get a puncture with them, it is going to be from something long & sharp. Sounds like you just had a dreadful day.
I hope today was better!
