Cycling in Sydney Australia
I am having a good hard think about my Fantasy Team, so many to choose from.
Two definate Starters are, Evans and Sagan, going off recent form.
From SBS CC, Here's the team for this year's TDF 2012, Matt Goss is the 'leader', obviously going for Green:
Michael Albasini (SUI), Baden Cooke (AUS), Simon Gerrans (AUS), Matt Goss (AUS), Daryl Impey (RSA), Brett Lancaster (AUS), Sebastian Langeveld (NED), Stuart O'Grady (AUS), Pieter Weening (NED)
Sebastian I haven't seen him in any races since his crash at Flanders (Gee that was a goodin!), but for him to get picked he's gotta be in good form, and there is no doubt he has talent.
All the other guys in the team are riding really well, Gerrans again, hopefully he has had a good rest and he brings back his form he had earlier in the year.
Baden Cooke and Stuart O'Grady are experienced hands and really in a three week race I believe this is a very important attribute to have, O'Grady is really the Jens Voigt of Aussie Cycling.
Lastly what can I say about the non-Aussies in the team, If I was a Team Director I would be more than happy to have them all. Albasini is my pick for a mountain stage, after that Stage win in penultimate day of the Tour de Suisse, this guy can do anything!
Well any stuff really like how much more enjoyable the race would have been if names like Lars Boom was on a saddle this year.
Thinking gossip, lies and mistruths just like the day to day stuff that Syd Cyc does very well
'Trucs' = 'stuff, things'.
I had to click on the title of this post to work out what the rest was about, because the remainder of baa baa's French est un peu - approximatif. :-)
I'm so glad we're back to our yearly round of sportscasters mangling Funny European Names! (During the recent French Presidential inauguration, I did think several Australian newsreaders were going to swallow their own tongues trying to pronounce 'François Hollande'...)
I've banned myself from fantasy sports, I invest (read: waste) way too much time in them. I'm running out my season of AFL Dreamteam (currently ranked 97 out of 284,106...), but no more after that!
On the positive, that means someone else will win the SC comp this year ;)
If I was selecting a team I would lock in Wiggins, Evans and Sagan and then work out what I had left after those three, hoping to be able to squeeze in at least two of Van den Broek, Gessink and Coppell.
tour tour tour tour tour omg c'est le tour et bicyclette et fun et france et vino et fromage et no sleep et et et...!!! :-D
Is now a good time to ask whether Cadel's win last year had any positive benefits for general cycling in Sydney, the rest of NSW or Australia generally?
If he wins again will there be twice the benefit?
If it had no benefit, why should we give a sh!t about the Tour?
No, not a good time.
See above for answer to last part.
Oh, you will need to publish a study on that so you can present it at some glam bike conference in say, the Bahamas. And if you mention the h word it will make the press and continue to divide the bike riding community into the few that care, and those that don’t care and the vast majority who don’t give rats…..
This bit of “press” will make it look like you are doing things which may keep the benefactors happy even if the report is so crap that even you know it is rubbish.
Yeah, I get the excitement bit, Kyles. It's France, after all, and a bit of Belgium, and occasionally some of Italy -- which would probably be where the "vino" comes in, unless you are referring to A.Vinokourov but he's retired, IIRC -- though not this year...
I am also not considering input to the next Velo-City conference in Kingston, Jamica, (if they ever have one), just wondering: Has anyone noticed any positive, enduring benefits from us having an Aussie TdF Champion over the last 11 months or so?
For sure it has had benefits.
Pre-Cadels win when did you hear the motoring public scream 'you *insert adjective of choice* McEven wannabe' at roadies ? No, it was always 'you Armstrong wannabe' , now they have can be united with a Aussie TdF winning name to use.
