Navy blue Volvo driver you are a coward and sexist and so many other despicable things you ignorant bogan.
Was riding to Centennial Park this afternoon. I was on my MTB and riding with my bf he on his road bike. As we approached the Captain Cook Hotel a car was beeping at us causing the moronic football supporters on
the footpath to start yelling ‘get off the road’, ‘you don’t belong’ etc etc.
As the beeping car, a navy blue Volvo went past he added some abuse to the
already witty banter that had been displayed.
The light to turn went green we turned left to follow on down past the football stadium, traffic conditions had been changed so we re merged with cars on Moore Park road before continuing up Moore Park in the bike lane, not long up the lane we passed navy blue Volvo where I openly pointed, laughed and said to my bf ‘all that energy just so he could sit in traffic longer’. As the lights turned he overtook us at a snails pace due to the
congested traffic and was shouting ‘try harder why don’t you’ ‘you shouldn’t be on the road’. Before long we once again overtook him at which point I stopped and said "I’m allowed to be on the road, it’s legal for me to be there".
His reply started with the good old ‘I ride a bike too"," you need to try harder"," you take up the whole lane", "slowed me down". My response of "I’m allowed to take the lane and as your sitting in traffic I haven’t slowed you at all". He goes back to saying ‘you don’t care about anyone do you?” my boyfriend tries to interject at this point to which the coward in the car says ‘not you mate only her, she’s the one not trying hard enough” I laughed and
said "doesn’t matter I’m still beating you through traffic" we continued riding he continued to scream at me as I headed up the road. At the next intersection I waited at the median strip as the oncoming traffic meant I couldn’t turn to go into the park. As Mr blue Volvo went past he yells ‘you look like a policewoman’..mmm witty comeback you tool.
This guy was not only ignorant of even basic road rules he was such a coward his day was made by yelling at woman who is barely 5 foot tall wearing a purple top and a bright pink helmet. When a larger male tried to talk to him he brushed him off only to continue to abuse the woman. You just know he’s gone to the pub with his bogan mates and bragged about how he ‘told that cyclist how it was” bet he forgets to mention I’m tiny, a girl and in the right.
I’ve had a shit week with bad news, people giving me grief and have sustained an injury that may lead to ongoing issues the last thing I needed as I went for a ride was some idiot screaming abuse at me.
What’s worse is that is becoming more and more of an issue, more idiots yelling more abuse at cyclists and more of them are cowards because they will drive past a large pack of guys or even a single guy and not open their mouth but a woman on a bike and then the abuse comes out in a torrent.
Can only hope Mr Blue Volvo gets stuck in traffic EVERY DAY and satisfies his life by thinking he is a big man because he picks on those smaller than he is and that Karma kicks his ass.

I ordered the same camera that Boognoss and Nathan use and it already arrived in the mail on Friday. I bought the same mounting stuff from Bunnings that Boognoss listed and it is all sitting on my commuter ready for action from tomorrow morning. Even if that Volvo driver didn't do anything illegal, it sounded like harrassment. If I had been you, now armed with my new camera, I would be showing such a video to the Police, even if they don't do anything about it.
That totally sucks Susan and we shouldn't have to live in fear of being subjected to that sort of crap.

I'm totally not a believer in karma and I doubt if he'll get anything other then high blood pressure from this incident.
Having said that I'm hoping MadameBike will give a review of the camera in action - in particular if it gives a clear enough pictures of the license plates of cars that pass you by - thanks !

An a-hole is too nice a word for these types.
Fridays are bad days to be on a bike, but as of late on Sundays I now tend to be extra "carfull".
I just don't get this aggro stuff.

susan i do feel for you.
pretty much the same thing happened to me thursday week ago as i was riding home from work. the first thing i will say is that in retrospect i brought this on myself, this dude saw me coming down the road. i know he did as our eyes met and just as i went past his car he tried to door me! i say this as i was 30 odd meters away when he saw me. now as the gods honest truth what i said to this tool was 'good on yer' my mistake. i got 2 -300 meters down the road and he tried to scare me to teach me a lesson that we cyclists shouldn't not mouth off to car drivers, he drove down my right side missing me be 10-20 cms sounding his horn. i like to say i didn't flinch however i was going to do something at the next set of lights. this soon to be killer pulled a smoking u turn in the middle of the road, yes it was quiet and there were no witnesses. he then proceeded to drive straight me. then i did the dumbest thing of my life. i stood my ground got off my fuji and was ready to throw it at him as i'm not allowed by law to carry a gun. fortunately he decided to spare my life and miss me. now the whole point to this diatribe is while there were no witnesses to corroborate my version of events it was pointless when i went to the police about this incident. i do however have his number and i know where he parks (on the road the dill) and i know the vehicle and at any time should i so choose i can exact retribution on this vehicle. as i'm no coward this will more than likely not happen. this man was a small man with the small penis to go with it and would not sort this out by getting out of his SUV and meeting me man to man and yes i can only imagine what he told his mates at the pub that night, as if anything these people have to say can have any effect on us. so chin up screw them and be careful out there.

However tempting it is, I don't think damaging his car is a good idea. Reporting the incident to the police would be a good idea, I would say.
In my revenge fantasy involving his car, I'd stick some bumper stickers on it - ideally ones that are hard to remove. Ones that say things like 'my other car is a bicycle', 'give bicycles room - share the road!', 'I love to cycle' and so on.
Not that I'm condoning such behaviour, of course.
