Cycling in Sydney Australia
Thanks to Sydney Cyclist for accepting my membership application.
I have been cycling since 1946 - I'm 76 years old but I still love to get onto my bike!
I have recently settled in St Ives and I will soon have access to my bike when I unpack the container from South Africa.
In the meantime, riding around the North Shore/Northern Beaches area in general by car, I get the impression that reasonably flat stretches of road are not easy to find.
At my age I can't cope with excessively hilly routes anymore. I'm looking for a relatively flat 10 - 20km route not too far from St Ives where I can still get out on my bike and enjoy the ride.
When my bike is unpacked shortly, I'll be keen to get onto the saddle again!
I could load the bike into the car and drive to Narrabeen and ride along the beachfront - not a bad idea but is there a flattish route somewhere near St Ives?
Any suggestions anyone?
Regards
Les

Just got to wait for my container to be unpacked!
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Struggler on November 19, 2011 at 5:16pm St. Ives to Duffy's Forest via Terry Hills is generally considered to be an easy ride. Guess you can find the way on Google Maps. (Otherwise sing out.) Not completely flat - but no long, or steep climbs. And good to know that if you get into difficulties, another cyclist will come along real soon.
You will quickly come to realise that Mona Vale road is very popular with weekend cyclists. The small car park opposite Pattisons Patisserie is a common rendezvous and start point for rides heading into the national park.
Bike North have a couple of cyclist your age. You might want to check their rides calendar.
Permalink Reply by yogi on November 21, 2011 at 8:39pm yes, the church point rides all cross terry hills... there is a lot of riders around there.. keep an eye out on Saturday and especially Sunday mornings

Another ride you can do is Wisemans ferry to lower portland ferry along river road, which hugs the south bank. Virtually no cars. 2 small sections of hard packed gravel about 500mtrs each, not an issue at all on 23c's

when you say ride on the beachfront do you mean that is all you want to ride? or is riding there an option...
from st Ives to Church point to meet a friend at monavale (to get a lift back to st ives is always an option too).
lovely ride. nice bush from "skippy" the bush Kangaroo to a nice leisurely drop down to Church point that goes past the bottom of pittwater (the water) and then to Monavale , the beach.
I used to live in St Ives, its nice and a tad removed. I lived there before the influx of those with funky accents from that place that shares our football colours.
