Permalink Reply by Carlos Kramer on February 23, 2012 at 4:54pm That VicRoads ad distorts reality too much. When operating a motor vehicle keeping your attention on the road and minimising the danger you pose to other road users whether they be motorists, cyclists or others, from what is a large and dangerous machine is both an implicit duty of care and just plain common sense. The SMIDSY syndrome (Sorry Mate I Didn't See You) that many motorists resort to after running over cyclists should be viewed as an admission of negligence not a valid excuse. There is no equivalence between almost bumping into someone while walking and almost killing someone while driving and its disingenuous to promote it as being the same. I think that campaign is misguided in the extreme and sends a bad message.
Permalink Reply by Paul Martin on February 23, 2012 at 5:24pm The office scene would be more realistic if the 'cyclist' was naked and the 'motorist' was in full riot police gear, pointing a gun a the 'cyclist'...

Permalink Reply by PeterT on February 23, 2012 at 8:07pm The video would be more accurate if one fellow was a sumo wrestler (say 148kg) nearly colliding with the other fellow who is a (let's see... that divided by say 15?... 10 kg? )..... 2 year old toddler?
Yeah, send the message back to VicRoads to redo the advert to reflect the mass difference and I'll even actually log on to facebook to send a LIKE your way.

Oh well, their loss.
Permalink Reply by Paul Martin on February 24, 2012 at 10:53am I only joined FB to have access to some 'sites' and stay connected to bicycle people... otherwise I wouldn't use it. It feels like a child's sandbox... don't like it.
