Cycling in Sydney Australia
Riding up the shared path near Artarmon station today I was stopped by someone with a very pro looking camera claiming to be from the Telegraph. They asked if i could reride along a section so that that could "take some photos for a story they are doing on cycling". didnt explain what exactly the story would be about so i can only assume it wasnt gonna be good...
funny thing about it was, when i declined and gave the reason of the poor record of the terror when it comes to reporting on cycling matters, the guy wasnt suprised at all - even seemed sympathetic!
so look out if you ride through there! the terror is everywhere ;)

I've got a personal policy that if I end up in the media of any kind (not this one ;^) ) it is a fail on my part.
Permalink Reply by Neil Alexander on July 17, 2012 at 9:33pm Oh, dear. I met the same guy in Artarmon Reserve this arvo. Same cover story. Same pro camera.
He said he wanted to get some nice shots of cyclists for their story about bike tracks around Sydney. I wasn't quick enough to say it had better not be a hatchet job and just turned around and rode up and down for him, trying to smile naturally.
Permalink Reply by Nobody on July 18, 2012 at 12:59am Oh dear. Some people are suckers for the limelight. ;^)
Well we'll see your contribution on the next hatchet job they do then. :P

Permalink Reply by Neil Alexander on July 18, 2012 at 9:07am I reckon just having me in the picture will sabotage it. And I told him something like that at the time. Didn't deter him.
Haven't seen anything yet, not that I would ever get the Tele, but I think I will cope with any fame which might come my way as a result.
Maybe the story is going to be a positive feature some time in the future (balance, and all). Artarmon is a bit out of Clover's patch for hatchet-job purposes, anyway.
Permalink Reply by Linze on July 18, 2012 at 10:55am I did think as I left that maybe they were trying to do good, but i was in my most pretention lycra and riding a low spoke count, so the photo could defintely have been put on file for their next war on 'lycra loonies terrorising share paths'. they will possibly photoshop in a pram and a pensioner having to dive out of your way ;)
i am interested in what time you went through, i saw him about 2:30 - how long did he have to wait for the shot?
Permalink Reply by Neil Alexander on July 18, 2012 at 2:56pm I was going around the east side of the oval sometime between 2.30 and 3, maybe closer to 3. Can't quite remember; after all, it was nearly 24 hours ago.
I wasn't wearing lycra, just a plain yellow (to match the road-modified non-suspension MTB) Netti long-sleeved roadshirt and some daggy MTB-type shorts, cleatless touring shoes with toe-clip pedals. They'll surely only want to use a photo of that sort of cyclist if they are desperate. At least I was wearing a helmet...
With attire like that, what kind of 'bent were you riding? ;-)
Permalink Reply by Neil Alexander on July 18, 2012 at 3:10pm I hesitate even to respond, Mr Ubu (Bad Dog!).
But I must correct the record. I do not own a 'bent, I am clean shaven and I do not ride in sandals.
I guess we'll await the photographic evidence.
And hope the Terror's art room doesn't apply too much photoshopping. ;-)
Or maybe we should hope that they *do*? <grin, duck, run>
