Nick, (the reporter above, not Nomes's Nick) points out that the Mitta Mitta River is actually on the right and not the left while cycling to Anglers Rest. He gets his left and his right confused sometimes...
Yes Nick and I and a few friends went down to Bright for the Alpine. It was awesome as always. The event is so well organised, the atmosphere is special and the volunteers pouring water over your head and feeding you or filling up your water bottles are just so lovely and hard working.
EVERYONE should get to ride the 30km down Falls Creek once in their life - it is was amazing and so so so much fun.
I did the 130 km as I had gone up Buffalo the year before (KimR you should definately give this one a go next year - spectacular). I was happy to finish in 7hours (the longest I had ever ridden on my own) and Nick and his friend finished in 12 hours - I have never seen them both so broken!

After enjoying this ride I began to wonder why we don't have a similar ride for the NSW alpine region. A nice trip could be Jindabyne up to Perisher Valley and back , (optional extension to Guthega on unsealed road I think) Thredbo Village and back (optional extension out to Geehi).
Many years ago I rode from Jindabyne to Charlotte Pass and on to Kosci summit (in the days when it was still permitted). That was on a road touring bike. The last bit was rough and it was coming on to sleet as I descended to Charlotte Pass again even though it was summer!
The road from Jindabyne-Thredbo-Kosciuszko-Tom Groggin-Gehi-Khancoban is all bitumen, but there are a few hills along the way. I went over it by car about 3 years ago. Beautiful country though, but in November the cicadas are deafening!
My riding buddy, bgcooper, was down there last weekend. Did Thredbo - Perisher - Charlotte Pass - Perisher - Jindabyne - Thredbo - Dead Horse Gap - Thredbo. He had no complaints about road surface.
