Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

Being the resident Audax statistician, in the end there were 66 riders, including the 3 who did the vollies ride which started on the previous Monday. Of these 36 successfully completed the ride according to the club rules.  One or other completed the course but were outside the time limit.  Chris Rogers, the principal organiser, put a large part of the attrition rate down to the atrocious weather rather than the terrain i.e. up to 500 km of grinding into a very strong headwind for some.  In 2009, the field was initially limited to 50 but in the end Chris allowed all of those on the wait list to participate.

This is horrible. It seems, from news circulated on the Audax chat list, that the cyclist hit-and-run on Wednesday night at Ryde was an Audax Club member.

Yep. A good riding buddy of mine. Not the best news to hear.

Damn, that is horrible. I hope he recovers ok. He's a strong rider so hopefully that fitness will count for something now.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

In Bright at the moment. It was not as hot here as in Sydney today but that wind was diabolical. Rode up Tawonga Gap around 1730 and it was all I could do to keep turning the pedals in the heat and the heart rate below max, even with a compact crankset. Ran out of water, too, by the top. Think I will try in the cool of morning from now on.

Here is a way to bring peace and harmony to both the retro and cutting edge lovers amongst us: Firefly Titanium 650B Rando. Ti, 650B, fenders, hub dynamo, disc brakes, Campagnolo groupset... Pretty much perfect.
