Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

Lithgow Panorama 200, a hard ride.

For those who have enjoyed some of the Audax rides around the Hunter Valley, the longer term prospects might be disappearing with the proposed pending arrival of the super B-doubles in some areas.  In the past I've ridden the Golden Highway in various sections while touring.  To have these behemoths tearing along the narrow highway will effectively wipe that road off my maps.

why don't they just use trains? 180 to 200 trucks a day sounds like a train line.

I agree totally.  The road is not a good road for heavy vehicles as it is.  The money, in my opinion would be better spent connecting the railway between Ulan and Dubbo, but that might raise the hackles of King Coal, and we can't have that!  They'd then have to share the tracks with someone.  A case of "what's yours is mine, and what's mine is my own"!

correction for the 100 course,

Comment by Bill Parker on March 3, 2014 at 3:12pm seems to have recovered and has a new user interface. The old routes are there but seems to only (currently) support Open Cycle Map and Map Quest maps, many routes I have done in Central West have missing roads, hopefully Google Maps later?

It also allows a user defined elevation smoothing which is going to be confusing as the route elevation will depend on the smoothing metric entered and varies a significant amount.
