Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

Sorry, not this weekend. I'd like to try the ride up Mt Kirra sometime but this Saturday is dentist, carb loading celebrating a mate's birthday and then another birthday in the evening. It'll be a non riding weekend for me.

I'll have to let that one slide Rob, I had better spend some time with the family. BTW, a 200 test run of your course for next season?

On another note, seen the page.  1200km about to start, the usual suspects Howard and Bec are on this one, didn't they just complete a GT?

Yup, a proper trial run this time. I haven't been able to take a day to ride for a while due to life, PhD, and the Rides Festival over the last month (I think I have been spending 30+ hours a week on bike related things thanks to the festival and a little bike group I've been involved in starting up in the local area).

New season coming, new goals time. Sydney to Melbourne 1200 will be happening at the end of next year, so that means a super series needs to be completed - I've never actually done a ride longer than 200km. My YRR were dashed by my shoulder, so I guess I can try to go for that at the same time!

Not 100% on aims for next season.  If there is a 1200 to Melbourne I'd like to try but I hit a limit on Sunday, wondering if more is necessary unless I want to go back to narrowing vision and vomiting like I did earlier in the year.

I'd like to do some shorter rides and also some longer.

I have not completed the same ride twice yet so I think trying to better previous times may be on the cards.

Aren't you know planning YRR number 2?  I've just finished no. 4; looks like I'll have to do a permanent for November as the calendar rides don't fit in with other obligations.

Here is the route I will be riding on Saturday, which (apart from possible minor alterations) will be the final route for the "Going to the 'Gong" 200km next season:

Any thoughts on the spacing out of checkpoints? I was thinking three - one on the way down, one in Wollongong (before or after climbing Mt Keira?) and one on the way home.

Three checkpoints is good.

If there is somewhere to buy something tasty and vegetarian at the top of Mt Keira, at the top :). Otherwise, I would prefer a stop after the descent. Eating before a good climb is not fun and I usually try to eat something proper about half way.

Any chance of a 07:00 start on "Going to the Gong? I would not have to get up stupidly early to ride to the start if that was the case.
