Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

No worse than Dog Trap.

oh good, up until that point (100km) there is not much hard stuff on Saturday.

I was thinking about doing the Bumble Hill Hike, but I think I will instead head south to Wollongong on a scouting mission.

If anyone wants to join me, this is my planned route on Saturday:

Just under 210km.

Anyone fancy a ride from Penrith to Lithgow (and back) this Saturday? Someone spotted a problem with my double Katoomba ascent plan - BRM won't count it as a ride because it would be two loops of the same course, which is against the rules. If there is going to be a 200km option there are a few options for adding 100km in the flatlands to the north or the south of Penrith, but why do that when you could just keep on going over Mount Victoria?

How did last weeks ride go Rob? My legs won't take me to Lithgow so soon.

It was a really nice ride down to Wollongong, I posted some pictures here.

The coastal roads are really nice, and from Thirroul to Wollongong there is a shared path that goes down the beaches - tossing up if I use that or the roads, though, because the paths were very popular with families and some riders might get frustrated by that - that being said, taking it easy in that stretch wouldn't be a bad idea considering what comes next.

Mt Keira is a fairly tough climb, 6% average for 7km, but there are really three tough bits with two more or less flat sections, so the climbing parts are closer to 10%, with sections, particularly just before the top, that are steeper than that. Here is the map, at the bottom you can swap the view of the elevation chart to show the gradients for each segment.
