Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

I was looking forward to the swim sections, not a problem with the Ortlieb panniers on, still a bit or rain, "possible thunderstorms" forecast but I will be there too, have to work on my hard core image

Made it, but not a lot to spare, rained most of the day, often heavy, Howard & Bec welcoming party when I arrived at Olive B&G, maybe I should be reconsidering if I really want to be hard core, when are the easy 200 on? At least no wading or swin segments.

Good on you Bill. Well done on a less than ideal day to be out riding a 200. You've scored a couple of good'uns for your first brevets!

Bill, a dirt 200, a wet 200, picking the harder ones. But do they get easier? Maybe after the 10th one the discomfort becomes familiar enough to accept. At about the 160-180 mark I am usually satisfied enough with my efforts and would not mind just being home with the family, a big plate of food and a glass of fluid. 100 miles sounds far enough.

"Easy" can only be relative over 200km. Particularly in Sydney where it is more or less impossible to do 200km without at least 2000m of climbing in it. I imagine there are some parts of the world where they struggle to put a single climb into their rides... oh to live there!

I was able to do a 200km Audax ride in the Netherlands last year. Essentially flat and good roads/cycle paths.

However the difference is that they go hard from the off. No need to pace yourself. You could easily average +30kms/h over the distance. Helps you understand why riders from Flanders have traditionally been considered hard-men.

a nice 100 on this weekend, for those wishing for one that requires no car travel. http://www.audax.org.au/public/index.php?option=com_content&vie...

Need to work out my YRR ride for this month. Tar and Dirt would be good, though it would require 240km of riding over the day when you factor in getting to and from Glenorie from Hornsby...

TnD is an excellent ride and we all know you can do 240km :o).

I was thinking of riding to the start myself, I think that puts me in the 240km distance as well.

Doing the Berry Mountain 200km ride this Saturday. Looks pretty flat....

Well done riding on Saturday. I bailed on Friday afternoon, after checking the forecast.
