Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

Would love to, but knee still dicky. Will be with you in spirit. Aiming for the Hawkesbury Valley on the 30th. Should be good by then.

I had planned to do the ride but have a family lunch to go to instead now.  I am starting my 200km per month thing in November with the Yarramalong ride.

Have not done a 200 yet, did not even finish my first 150.

robflyte - the ride from Wisemans Ferry to Mangrove Mtn is beautiful. The cars heading east/north tend to come in waves due to the ferry so there are long periods of relative peace and tranquility. Make sure you fill up your liquid at Wisemans, because after Spencer there is nothing until Kulnura.

A good strategy for YRR is to try and do a ride early early in the month so if you DNS/DNF you get the chance to have another go (or three).

Make sure your brakes work for Bumble Hill as well. It's very steep.

thanks for the info Si.  I tend to go through water at a high rate so good to know.

Plan was to do the early ones in each month for that reason.

Wife still asking me why I am doing this, got no real answer apart from "because I can" which is not really the truth as I don't know if I can.

robflyte please check my recent blog post for info on zoo2zoo. The blog post is titled "tractor time - zoo2zoo hits the dirt.
I'm currently at Mt Victoria the first overnight stop on the Sydney to Dubbo zoo2zoo. Today's ride was 159 km. Tomorrow we ride to Molong, another 175 km. Then Sunday it's 115 km for the last leg to Dubbo.

Pay has just come and $60 is going to Audax Australia in time for the season start in November. I've decided that the Yarramalong 200 is going to be my first ride, so as I've not done more than 120km I've planned a big ride this weekend (basically plus the additional kms to get to and from that loop from Dulwich Hill) to see how I go. I'll start a few threads for discussion to ask a few questions, I think it will be easier to follow than just this long single stream.

Well, today's ride was a but of a disapointment, only managed 130km (got throught West Head and Bobbin Head to Berowra Heights) - I had noticed I was a bit out of breathe, but nothing out of the ordinary considering the distance, and it was starting to get warm. I stopper at Berowra Heights to refill bottles and have a bathroom break and realised it was a bit out of the ordinary - I couldn't take full breaths at all, my lungs started to tickle when I tried and I had a small coughing fit, so I called it a day. On the way home from Berowra I was in an airconditioned train and I started to breathe a bit better, so I think it was a seasonal allergy/dust related issue. On the bright side, it could have been worse  - much further along and I would have had little choice but to keep riding a fair distance and uphilll, either back up to Berowra or through Galston, though I had really wanted to make the 200km at least once before Yarramalong, just to know that I could make the distance.

Rob, there was a lot of smoke in the air, I think they were back burning. It got quite heavy up at Kurrajong and I think my ride time suffered a lot from it. I added Springwood Road to my ride which winds up to Winmalee, that was quite something, on the way back down I am sure I leant further into corners than I ever have before.
So I did 170km and the last 20 really was bad. Got a bad butt rash as well, everything aches. Is this meant to be fun?
I am not sure how 200km is going to be completed

Well, I hope they don't do any backburning on 5 November!

Looks like we will be in the same boat for Yarramalong - on the bright side, we have added more kms into our legs, even if not quite as much as we wanted or as comfortable as we could have hoped for and we will be in a better position for the brevet for it than if we hadn't ridden at all. It wouldn't be an achievement if it was easy, but it will get easier ;)
