Audax Riders

Audax rides are non-competitive long distance tours by bicycle, called "randonnees". The challenge of Audax is not in racing, but in riding at your own pace. Rides are open to all reasonably fit riders - non-Audax members are most welcome to join.

I will happily admit to having no idea if two riders are allowed to ride the same permanent on the same day... I should ask. Thirlmere is another option, yes, but I would like to see a route first!

I wouldn't be too worried about me being fast than you. I'll have basically no real riding done in the month and willy only have had the pin out of my hand for a few days, not really conducive to a fast or easy ride.

Multiple riders can ride the same permanent.

You cannot do a permanent on day that there is a scheduled ride of the same distance in the same area. Not sure if Wollongong and Central Coast are also included in this rule, but all Sydney starts are.

This seems to be to stop people from trying to avoid riding up bumble hill, or The Daddy Gorges, Gorges Galore etc. HTFU princess(es)...You will almost inevitably have to do some of these rides to get YRR mwah ha ha haaaa :) (Seriously, buy a S/H roadie. You should be able to pick up an old Giant OCR for pretty cheap - $5-700 which'll be a lot easier to do these rides on).

I have already checked and the ride from Dapto doesn't stop you doing a permanent in northern Sydney on the same day.

I'm in a crappy situation where to keep my YRR plan alive I need to ride on the 10th or 11th - I leave for Japan for 20 days on the 13th and can't ride my bike at all until the 6th... maybe I should just suck it up and go In Search of Hills...

So a couple of us are doing the 200km Spencer Look as a perm on Sunday, leaving Nth Turra at 7ish. If you want to come along you will need to let me/Garry Armsworth know ( We will be taking it easy.

After commuting this week, my legs say, no, no, no.

A month off the bike makes a surprising difference.

The Daddy Gorges next weekend looks like my first ride of the season... ouch. Hopefully my legs will have got back into the swing of things...?

I'm going to tackle the HVW tomorrow (Saturday) despite the promised heat. It will be a good prelude to the Daddy Gorges next weekend. Hope to see you there Si.

Dying to try out my new Garmin. At the moment it is just a lump of bewildering technology. Hopefully the fog will lift once I actually start to use it.

Hawkesbury Valley Randonee, Saturday 19 Nov: hot, damned hot.

Another hot day today. I hope the riders doing the Spencer Look perm don't suffer too much.

Yes, a tad warm. Only survived by taking a couple of nana naps under a couple of the very rare trees in the west. Apparently it was 38 C when we were riding from Richmond to Windsor.
