New part cycleway at M4 near Holroyd Sportground under construction.

  • I rode past the M4 part cycleway under construction near Holroyd Sportground on the way to Prairiewood to volunteer my time at WSCN Bike shed.
  • It is nearly under going completion and it is under finishing touches to landscaped to be ready to open.

Thanks for info,John.I didn`t ride all the way as I saw no one there when I rode home fom work.

600m is not enough and it would be good if it is on entire M4 from Parra to Emu Plains as I rode on road and there`s too many debris on it,when I rode home from Rob`s CAMWEST ride to cause me puncture before I change into Schwalbe tyres.Like those on M7.

Does it allow access back onto the M4 westbound?

No,it don`t.I rode up to see if it is but I see narrow path after footbridge to Burnett st then I turned round to head home. Not happy of it.

Cycleway up to pedestrian footbridge next to M4.Cycleway ends at near Rickard st then revert to narrow footpath after footbridge. *not shown in pic* not opened yet.

Hi guys,

My understanding is that the intention is that you continue directly West along that narrow footpath;

across Burnett St at the slightly redesigned traffic lights and join up with the T-Way path beside Rita St. I've ridden this in both directions and; well, it's ridable, but pretty awful and well below standard.  I'm sure the intention is to concrete over this narrow bit through Ledger Park sooner rather than later. A couple of direction signposts at the Western end are needed by the sound of things.

I've also learned through cyclists' word of mouth  that a young person was killed crossing Pitt St here and that's why we now have an underpass. This is total hearsay but the person seemed sure and genuine about it.

If and when the section from Ledger St to Rita St is concreted properly then there will be straight path beside the M4 from Olympic Park to the Cumberland Highway. The question is; where next? Do we want this path to continue Westwards towards Blacktown or follow the M4 all the way to Penrith. A diversion away from the M4 into a more populated area would make sense to me.

Back to work after chrisssie break today.Rode past it and it is still not opened yet.No workers at site.

Rode past it to work this morning and the temporary fence had been removed. It is now opened.

Thanks John for info.

$5.8m just for 675mtr of cycleway. If they make it to Penrith, then it will be years away. Why wait and the costs will inflates. If it was done 10 years ago, then the costs will be less.

Comment from wombatK on Parra Sun about Parra Pedal,it will not be back this year as I was told from BNSW staff at Springcycle last year.

As of 11.55pm,Parra Sun Poll of "Is the M4 cycleway near Merrylands a white elephant?".

81% voted "No,the more cycleways we have the better" against the 4.8% voted "Yes,it is a waste of money.
