SS off road gearing...
Hey Guys and Girls, any thoughts on gear ratio's for off roading? Have previously converted my hard tail to a SS commute (42/16) and loving it, but that's a wee bit big for the dirt, especially those hill climbs.

2:1 or 32/16 is the standard place to start, and if you are fine with 42/16 on the road, 32/16 off road should suit you.
That being said, I tend to go for a lower gear than a higher gear, especially for slow technical riding, enduros and epic rides. Around 32/17 and 32/18 are my favourite gears. -
