Comment by Neil Alexander on June 4, 2011 at 2:07pm @ MB: You mean "Not I."
I will not be pedantic either.
Comment by Dan on June 4, 2011 at 2:21pm A suggestion for agenda item #1:
- Members are requested to vote on the following motions...
a) whether a contraction of the noun "resident pedant" to one word is acceptable, and...
b) if the above resolution is voted in favour of, should it be "residant" "redipant" or any other suggestion?
BTW, what is the collective noun for a group of resident pedants / repidants / whatever? A perfection? A correction?
Comment by Neil Alexander on June 5, 2011 at 2:17pm I like coining words, though I am not particularly good at it. So, on a), I vote aye. Re b), I also like "redipant", despite its slight illogicality, because it is more obviously a coined word than "residant" which just looks like a typo and, as a pedant, I can't abide that.
Given a choice of "A perfection" or "A correction" as a collective term, I'd go with "A correction" because pobody's nerfect.

Comment by Dan on June 5, 2011 at 9:14pm I vote 'no' for a), unless it is grammatically correct. Thus "re'dant" would be acceptable (or something similar using an apostrophe for missing letters), but concocting some new word is unacceptable.
I believe the collective term for pedants is an 'exact', although I've also seen 'a constipation of pedants' suggested...
Comment by Neil Alexander on June 6, 2011 at 9:38am Oh, oh. Controversy and disagreement among the re'dants/pedirants/repidants.
This could cause trooble down at mill...
