It is interesting watching these things. I find that at the gym it takes a fair amount of effort to sustain 130 bpm, but if I wear my HRM home, I average that, hitting high 150s.

I got a heart rate monitor. Scared me half to death when it showed I was over the limit (80% of 225 minus yr age or whatever it is) on just a ride to Glebe- that hill out of the park has always got me puffing.

Cardio training on an indoor bicycle is an excellent way to get CV fit and to control weight. Heart rate monitor is required. An excellent book is by Sally Edwards and Sally Read called "The Heart Rate Monitor Workout Book for Indoor Cyclists". You don't need to spend much on a heart rate monitor, either. I have a Polar F4 and you can pick them pretty cheaply on ebay.

I do a bit of touring and regular Sunday rides etc but am not particularly CV fit. Whats the best way to do this in a systematic way- interval training? How often? How hard, etc?
