Comment by Bob Moore on April 28, 2008 at 10:49pm: Our main current campaign is to get Victoria Road upgraded for cyclists. Present route from Gladesville Bridge to White Bay is partly on back streets (through Drummoyne) and partly sharred footpath (through Rozelle). RTA is upgrading the road for buses so why not for cyclists too? Will be meeting with Minister for Roads in May. Any help appreciated, such as writing letters to Roozendaal, Verity Firth (local MP) etc. See photos on picasaweb

Comment by Bob Moore on April 15, 2011 at 11:20am: Yes, the latest in Leichhardt's bike plan works. They recently upgraded the path under the light rail with centre lines and flaring the exit to The Crescent- not huge works but nice little details. They have also marked out Young St and Nelson I think. Some dispute as to what to do in Young St at the sewerage viaduct, as headroom is a little low.

Comment by Bob Moore on August 7, 2011 at 1:41pm: The bus stop at Terry St is still badly sited (see post from April, 2008 above). The RTA didnt do much except paint some funny white cross hatching. But you can use the other side of Vic Rd now and cross back over at Terry St, Wellington St or even Darling St. I would be interested to know if cyclists are switching sides now and if anyone uses or even knows about the quieter Moodie/Waterloo/Red Lion/Quirk St option.

Comment by Bob Moore on November 21, 2011 at 9:54pm: There was a final walkthrough of the Victoria Rd upgrade for cyclists in August. The BTBA/RTA compiled a long list of problems as we saw them. Some (a very few) they agreed to fix. Others they said were to be referred to the RTA for further consideration, or were Leichhardt Council's responsibility. Some were just ignored. Comment by Bob Moore on April 30, 2012 at 6:59pm: Bicycle Advisory Committee is on May 9, Wed, Leichhardt Town Hall, upstairs, from 630 pm. New works for 2012-13 up for discussion and review of the Bike Plan for next 5 years, chance to have a say on which way they go and priorities.
Can park bike inside. entrance by side door off Marion St. Sandwiches supplied.

Comment by Chris on May 2, 2012 at 2:05pm: n relation to the bike advisory committee, I reviewed the works schedule and it seems like they are planning to invest a lot of money in advance storage boxes for bikes. I cycled extensively in London where these are all the rage and I can tell you that they are pretty worthless.

Most of the time they cannot be used because cars have stopped in them and the british police would not fine people for stopping in them. The rest of the time they do nothing except encourage cyclists to try and ride to the front. This has led to many of the conflicts between cyclists and trucks, which is a huge problem in London. Typically the cyclist gets half way up the left hand side trying to get to the advance storage box when the lights change colour and the truck turns over the top of the cyclist.

I really don't think that they are worth the money.

They should really be trying to get bikes out of the door zone lanes and into proper clover moore style paths

Comment by Bob Moore on May 2, 2012 at 6:38pm: Not to worry, the RMS has put such conditions on installing them it is unlikely we will see any. Agree on need to remove car door lanes, particularly on downhill sections. I would like to see some off road paths, eg on Darley Rd where there is no parking demand on one side of the road, or proper wide bike lanes. Would in fact prefer these to Bi Dis. Tried this on Balmain Rd but was soundly trounced by Council and RTA. Lilyfield Rd could also have wide bike lanes if parking was removed on one side where there is no residential. But the Council is very sensitive about removing any parking anywhere for any reason. Currently Lilyfield Rd is a defector boat marina in places.
