Cycling in Sydney Australia
Managed to have this letter printed in response to an article touting the state governments 'masterplan' for public transport under the headline 'Rapid bus link the only way forward'. It even scored a photo with a quote from my letter for the caption.'
The letter below was published on Friday, 9 December 2012.
'Once again the state and local governments ignore the fact that even buses are fossil-fuelled contributors to the transport-congestion problem (Rapid bus link the only way forward, Manly Daily Wed 7 Dec). Of course some people will always need to catch buses or even drive cars, but the vast majority of able-bodied adults can easily ride a bicycle from the northern beaches to North Sydney or CBD. Continuing to prioritise motorised transport will only lead to further congestion, more obesity and other poor health outcomes. It is high time cycling was prioritised as the efficient, clean and cheap commuting option and allocated a sensible share of the transport budget.'
