I too did a slowish ride yesterday (Sat 6th Sept). A distance of 87 km, with an average speed of 12.7 kmph....That meant approaching 7 hours in the saddle, and I'm feeling it today!
I was collecting more GPS tracks for the OpenStreetMap (and more importantly (!) OpenCycleMap project. I've started entering and tagging the routes...This will keep me occupied for the next few evenings before hopefully venturing out again next Saturday.
I wasn't intending to ride that far or for that long, but you know how it goes....A fine sunny day, and thinking "Well while I'm in the area, I must as well go and do this path...", and before you know it you've taken up most of the day. Such is life!
I started off heading from Rooty Hill to Prospect Reservoir, to explore (and map) some newish roads which go between Eastern Ck Raceway and Reservoir Rd. Good riding. The only trouble is getting from the Great Western Hwy to the raceway - dual lane road with no shoulder or path. After going into Prospect Reservoir (
and being swooped by maggie number 1 twice) I headed back up Propect Hwy towards Blacktown, and rode the almost parallel paths to St Martins Village shopping centre. I then headed over towards Seven Hills (lunch break), and then Toongabbie where I rode the newly opened 1.2 km of path which runs from Fitswilliam nearly to Old Windsor Rd shared path. I then headed up into Baulkham Hills and Castle Hill, and returned home via Kellyville, The Ponds, Quakers Hill and the M7 path.
Keep your eye open for a couple of other discussions topics which I came across/thought of while doing this ride.
There are a number of other paths still to map in the Hills area. Anyone care to join me one weekend? I don't mind if you want to start a bit closer to the area!
