glad to be in the touring group. I seem to recognise Adrian, Adam, Neil and Alethea already. I've not toured much in Oz since the 70's but I do get 3 trips a year overseas and am most familiar with India and Europe.

Hi guys.
I'm planning to go touring around tas from the 5th of Feb. Has anyone done anything similiar? I'd love to hear how you found it.

I havn't been touring in Tassie but a lot of people in the Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club tour there every February. Th tour finishes at the Evandale Penny Fathing carnival.

Hi Annabel I have done the East Coast of Tassie and my bf has done the West as well. The Tasmanian Tourism Authority have just put out a great pamphlet on cycle touring Tassie - I noticed t last time I was in Cheeky check it out.

Definitely worth doing - one of the best things I have ever done - great scenery, food, people and its relatively cheap with lots of free camping and cheap pub B&B's along the way.

Here's my blog. I did a nice short tour from Campbelltown to Buxton (NSW). Be warned that there are about 5 big hills between Menangle and Maldon - very big and scary ones. Best to attempt on a low-geared MTB WITHOUT loads of gear.

Those Crane Sports bags that go in your frame are useful. The top compartment can be used to keep some snacks and in the main compartment, spare tube, patch kit and tyre levers are best kept there. I also have a crane sports bum-bag where I keep my valuables on my body - I would probably forget to remove the handle-bar bag.
