Do you sit on tensioned leather? Is yours a lugged steel bicycle? Is carbon just that stuff people say we need to stop putting into the air? This is a group for people into vintage bicycles. (typically pre-1980's)

Shall investigate Hyde Park Barracks!

Thanks to you both,

Ooh yes yes! A ride including scones and the Hyde Park Barracks, and some of the pubs in the rocks - that would be lovely!

Hopefully this is being planned for August? I'm away for all of July, but woud love to come with.

How about August 2 or 9 ?

Yeah, since there is the Vintage and Retro Catch-up (thanks Karen) on July 19th, something in August would be good. I'm going to go into the CBD with my bicycle and check out some possible routes now I have some locations sussed out. What do people think of a visit to a bicycle shop during the day?

I'm also thinking of doing a trip further afield in September in the Southern Highlands to co-incide with the Tulip Time festivel in Bowral. I am going to avoid first weekend of the month because that's when my local BUG has their social rides I have missed 7 in a row because of other things I have had to do!

I'm off home tmrw for 4 weeks so will be back at the end of July ... keen to go for a dapper day out early August - ideally a Saturday or Sunday arvo with tea and scones, fancy beer and whatever other delights can be conjured up along the way (within my Austudy-based budget) ... have been trying to rope some more neo-Victorian friends into coming along and I think one of them is nearly convinced to invest in a Penny-Farthing - which could be fun ... hope to see y'all then ...

I found this on another site and thought it may interest the members here

I have scheduled a Lether Saddle Tour (for old bikes, blokes and sheilas) with my touring club on Sun 19th July. It is not in Melbourne unfortunately, but more a country tour in the style of the Cyclist’s Special 1955.

We will be doing a 60km tour from Geelong out on the Bellarine peninsula. Any classic cyclists interested in this, riding old bikes and old clothes, contact:

Would really, really like to go to that - just not sure if I can afford the trip down (full time student = really poor, but can afford to pay for bicycle hobby). Hmmm.... budget tight.

Bit of an update for those interested: I didn't get around to organising anything for July. I had a nasty case of the flu for 2 weeks, and my lungs are still recovering from it (Had a persistent cough for 3 weeks so far). I'm hoping to have something good organised for August. The weekend of the 8th/9th is looking like a possibility.

Cool - I'm back from uni hols (classes start tmrw) ... 8th/9th might have family in town but would love an excuse to escape for an afternoon of velocipeding ... depending on the weather ...

Adam, At the moment I plan it to be largely an afternoon escapade. The Lord Nelson opens at midday, a good opportunity to sample their in-house brew (be careful how much though - don't want to get done for drunk cycling) Just wondering where is a good place for lunch nearby. The Museum of Sydney has an exhibition of the old Sydney Trams on at the moment - perhaps worth taking a look. Copenhagen Ice-creams down at Circular Quay perhaps. I believe you suggested a jazz place to end the evening with some entertainment. Where do you think we should go?
