Cycling in Sydney Australia
My mate Paul taking a piccy as we leave Mt Hotham back to Bright.
Cool clear air going for miles and miles!
Looks like as nice a day as when I was last there in January.
(That's not me. I'm hiding behind the camera. It's probably one of the loonies doing the Alpine Classic Extreme 250km ride or maybe even the stupidly ludicrous 300.)
It was a stunner Neil. The two or three days prior were cloudy, odd showers, very humid.
We rode from Bright and got up to the top about 9.30. It was cool. Perfect weather for a bloody flogging!
Looking to the South, it was different - we were above the clouds, but the air was hazy.
It was 3 Peaks day on Sunday - I had a couple of friends doing it - It's a massive challenge when when everything is going your way and you have a support van following you. It would add 30% - 50% challenge factor to have to do it with basic support on a "no matter what the weather forecast" day. Hats off to those riders!
Bill, We spent some time discussing our new laws and fines with the residents of Bright - they are more or less incredulous at the goings on in NSW.
The Vic Gov't is right behind cycling, cycle tourism, rail trails, sharing the road signs everywhere.
I'm ready to migrate right now!
I remember about 10 years ago going from Harrietville up the mountain by bus with my touring gear on the back - didn't feel like pushing 50kgs of bike and gear up 25ks for a 1400m height gain. I was dropped off at Dinner Plain and then rode through Omeo to Swifts Creek. It was a magic day's ride. The most memorable part was the eerie silence on the high plains early in the morning. There was no wind, and not even any bird calls. It's a ride that I've planned to do again some time. Beautiful country, not to mention the bakery at Omeo!
Remind me again of the name of Victoria's bicycle ADVOCACY organisation, Bill.
Would that be the one which backed the massive increases to Victorian cyclist fines a few years ago, inspiring Dunce's great plan?
Dabba, again, I couldn't imagine a tourer going up there - if you said you rode it, it would do my head in! It has much steeper and longer pitches than Tawonga.
It does get spooky quiet up there. Fantastic to plug away on your own for an hour or two.
We rode Bright - Harrietville - Hotham Heights and our gadgets gave us a maximum climb of 1,533m for the ride.
I've gone down to Omeo from there and cracked 85kmh - You must have gone subsonic with the extra 40kg !!!!!
