In March last year when we had the hot weather and i had started what was intended to be a long tour of the SW slopes I aborted the tour. Persistent 40+ temperatures made it no fun. On one day I had done Wodonga 》Wangaratta by lunch and decided to go on to Benalla before the temperature hit its forecast maximum around 2ish. I didn't make it! I saw 48 degrees on the road as a kind woman driver pulled over to give me water when I was a couple of kms short of Benalla. It looks like I'll be doing future autumn tours later  in April / May.

Yeah, March last year was a furnace. Being a boy from the bogan, I don't mind the heat but do find the hot bake around Hay plains hard. Early mornings are still the go.

Not so sure it will be that hot again this year given the big rains and the still is green about the country ground cover. But yes autumn is the time to bike west of the mountains.
