I've mentioned a cafe in Woolloomooloo a few times, they have great coffee and what i reckon is the best muffin in town. Would anyone be keen for breakfast there, and then people can check out the bike stuff if they have time to stick around?
things for sale or swap if you have something the vendor wants, Deus one normally has some Goldsprints or a best in show bike as well, the Sable and Argent one this weekend is part of the bigger Woolloomooloo on wheels festival with BBQ's, artshows…
Are you serious? Maritime historian-cyclists. That's getting a little specific now. The ride sounds great, are you going through Canary Wharf and Greenwich and so on?
Happy birthday for a few days back, read it in the diary. Anyway, sitting at the front desk at work. It is finally getting quiet with the school groups. Nothing else changes at the Barracks. Claire D says hi.
How's the weather for cycling over there? We had the Singlespeed national titles on the weekend, which involved racing in 40 Degrees of heat. I managed to crash on the way to the start-line and losose a bit of skin.
There were also a few events for the bicycle film fest earlier in November, a few alleycats and parties. I ended up 5th in a drag race through the city to Marrikville, but it almost kiled me, however it was worth it to beat Terrence. Johno also had a bit of a fall that night. After we had drunk one pub out of Coopers green, we were heading elswhere when he decided to grab Terrence's seat-post (That sounds a bit weird) and slingshot forwards. He got a bit squirrily though and slammed into the ground pretty hard, losing a chunk out of his helmet, and sending his glasses sliding across the road in pieces. We picked hi up, and collected half of his glasses and as he asked where the other half was we heard a crunch from under the wheels of a white Commodore. We thought he was ok, but he kept asking the same question, and was not sure what day it was, so it was off to the hospital for a ct scan.
Anyway, he is ok, just was a little sore for a bit.
The other news is that Lois and I are hoping to do a little cycling tour from France to Italy next year in September. So I have to get a bike built up for her, and do a few weekenders here to see how she likes it.
Glad to hear you are well. It's amazing the kinds of growth and discovery that occur whilst traversing the globe - cliched I know, but true nonetheless.
It's a pity you aren't able to do as much riding as you'd like. Even a few days of rain here is frustrating, so I can't imagine what it's like to live at the mercy of ongoing shitty weather. As for the drinking/riding issue - I can totally relate to what you're saying. In fact, I find even the Wednesday night rides can end up being more about going to the pub, than riding. Although last week there was only a small crew of us and instead of going to the pub, we ended up in a cool little Chinese restaurant in Kensington after a ride out to La Perouse and back, and we actually got to have a decent conversation, rather than competing over beer and loud music.
As for the zine, my vision is to compile a constellation of personal reflections on bike riding - a vague description, I know. Nothing overly formal, and it can be as long or as short as you like, although maybe try and keep it under 1000 words. If you want to include something visual - a drawing, photos etc - that's cool too. I think bikes are such visual objects, so it makes sense to include images. I'm happy to send you a copy of the first two editions of my zine, maybe they might provide some direction. Do you have an address in London I can send them too?
Hi Annabel,
How is London treating you? Did you bring your fixie over there? Definitely a lot of awesome things going on in the Sydney bike world, including the bicycle film festival, which was on last week, and rocked. Le Pista rides are going well - we're thinking of heading down the beach soon now that it's getting warmer.
I am also putting together a bike zine, and have a bunch of people wanting to contribute. I would be really keen for you to write something for it. Maybe you could write about a memorable part of your tour, or what it's like to ride in London? If you would like to contribute photos or drawings instead, that would be cool to. Whatever suits! It looks like it will take a while to get everyone's contributions together, so no major rush. I'm looking to compile it all in January. Anyways, have a think about it...
I can also post you some copies of my zine if you're interested.
I hope London life is treating you well. We definitely miss you, and hope you decide to come back to Sydney one day :)
Emily.

Hello, i love the vintage looking graphic you use for the club. Is that a contemporary illustration, or is it from a vintage poster or the like?
I'd like to see a larger version. I am an artist, and am working on a project in a similar style. Thanks!
Loving your posts on Candycranks. Why did you end up in hospital?:( Was it dehydration? I got really sick in Tassie because I was I managed to that to myself - I was so naive about food and water and cycling when I think back! I am watching the Tour and keep thinking about you over there - am very jealous but not of 150km days in the summer over mountains (sounds like your bf is like mine - what is wrong with them?:) How has it been on your own - has it been hard/scary? I got cycle tourists in Tassie telling me that the way to approach hills was to be zen with them. I didn't get it - I hated them, am too big for them and wanted them over with as soon as possible but now I realise what they were on about - it works (well that and granny gears)!
Beautiful picture of the mountains you posted. I think it is time to really seriously work out how to ditch my cushy public service arts job and take off to Europe as well!
Tonight is the stage I think you were planning to watch so I will keep an eye out for you in the coverage:)
Also - I have some lovely pictures of you and Emily from the Bronte ride - shall I just add them to my page here for you or would you like them emailed?
waaaaaaa.
nothing to say just Hi.
wish I took a pic of your bike b4 and after we cleaned it.. I was just so amazed .. not to mention you had a yellow chain that I just did not see at all.
yay to elbow grease
Hey, I just realised you at posted a message about a plan to tour Tas in Feb - I want to do that this summer too. We should talk - would be really good to have someone to do it with. I spoke about it this morning with Bec and Kylie at breakfast - Bec was also really keen - we didn't know you were too at that point.
Heya, just realised I've offered to help out at the Surry Hills festival next Sat so I won't have time for a ride that weekend. Come down to the festival if you get time :o)
Hi Annabel,
Did the tour of Tassie you mentioned in "Touring" group happen? We'd love to hear about it, if it did. We're very keen on Tasmania as you might notice from our page!
