I live in the inner-city suburb of Petersham in Sydney, Australia with my wife and two sons, born in March 2003 and January 2006. I am a director of a Public Relations company, Jackson Wells, which I joined in August 2003. Prior to that I spent 10 years working as a journalist at The Australian newspaper in Sydney (1993-96); Melbourne (1996-1999); Canberra (1999-2002) and back in Sydney from 2002-03. Before working at The Australian, I worked in community radio at 2SER FM (1989-1996) and Radio Skid Row (1988). At 2SER I co-hosted an Australian music program, Zootime, Tuesday Breakfast and was a reporter on several current affairs shows, including Undercurrents, which was broadcast around Australia via satellite.
I edited the University of Sydney student newspaper, Honi Soit in 1991. I have also written for Sydney music paper, Drum Media. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Psych from Sydney Uni and a Grad Dip in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). I lived at St Paul's residential college at Sydney Uni from 1988-90. In 1987 I spent a year in the UK as a student teacher at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate, Kent. I was born and raised in Canberra and attended Canberra Grammar School from 1974 to 1986. I have an older and younger sister....
Firstly, we're wanting to get funding, even if it's just in stages. Re the sharing, we'd be requesting that the facility be at least 5 metres wide c.f. mostly 4 metres on the North Ryde - Lane Cove - Naremburn facility. On Ride2Work Day in 2007, close to 800 cyclists rode the SHB c/way in just one hour. We'd expect an increase of at least 5-fold with H/Link, so these numbers will ensure peds behave.
I should have added that we probably wouldn't have been able to get North Sydney Council to adopt this project without including pedestrians. The then councillor, Nick Ritten, who took on and drove this project over 3 years ago, said it was essential to include peds. He did fantastic work thru to the last elections (Sept 2008), but unfortunately decided not to renominate ..... he'd had a gutful of the politics.
