Regarding those illustrations. They are from the Sydney Mail in 1896. I scanned them from microfilm at the state library. That explains the poor quality. If you can find a library that hold the originals of the Sydney Mail from that time they should be able to scan you a copy, and let you know about any copyright issues. It usually costs about a dollar a page, for more money they can give you a high quality scan fit for publication e.c.t.

These are just a few, but in 1896 there were a whole lot of cycling illustrations in the Sydney Mail for some reason. There must have been a bit of a cycling craze. Some are sketches, and some engravings were made from photographs at that time. You are also seeing some of the first photographs being printed in the illustrated papers at that time.

There must have been originals for the sketches, and blocks used for the print run, but I have no idea where they would end up.
