Copenhagen-style separate cycleways planned for Christchurch

If Christchurch can charge their rate payers the equivalent of a mere 4 cups of coffee and achieve this, why can't we do the same throughout Sydney? Sydney is far more affluent, yet the average mentality still has to change...but hopefully not through an earthquake! Maybe Christchurch can lead by example? This is well worth the read & forwarding on to all your Local, State & Federal politicians:…See More

About Me:
Artist, Comedian, Writer, Variety Artist, Hygromorphomatician [artistic harvesting of rainwater to create artificail streams, ponds & waterfalls.]

I initiated the Community Pathways Project to facilitate off-road shared pathways in Lane Cove, as the roads in Lane Cove are deemed too dangerous for families in this area & many schools won't even allow kids to ride to school. We had a magnificent off-road route planned from the Epping Rd Cycleway / Lane Cove town centre all the way to Greenwich Point [ the ferry.] It also included a boardwalk along the foreshore. Part of the route was through parkland between the Lane Cove Country Club [golf course] & residential houses, with scenic views of the city. This was to be on the Lane Cove Bike Plan, but was voted out 5 / 4, believe it or not without the support of two "Green" Councillors! The main reason was because there were a couple of short links through bushland!

I admire what some Councils, like Ku-ring-gai have done, to create non-intrusive one metre wide shared pathways through the bush....to enable all mobilities to enjoy the bush & allow prams & cyclists to escape the exhaust fumes & dangerous cars! I am a staunch advocate of shared pathways, separated cycleway routes in higher cycle usage areas, & of kids riding to school & students riding to universites / TAFE’s, etc.

Currently [August 2012] I am "the Chairperson” of the Lane Cove Council's Bicycle Advisory Committee.
