PETITION: BYPASS HARBOUR BRIDGE STEPS WITH A RAMP & INVEST IN OFF-THE-ROAD CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE

After years of lobbying, it is very disappointing that safe cycling infrastructure is still not accepted as a mainstream form of transport in NSW. The government spends billions knocking down stadiums, building roads and freeways, the new Metro… yet they won’t even spend one billion on OFF-the-road cycleways and SUPs, an effective way to reduce Sydney’s crippling traffic congestion. Residents should be able to go about their every day business safely on a bike. People from all walks of life…See More

The BIG FAMILY FUN RIDE at Epping Rd Cycleway to Artarmon & Bicentennial Reserve

August 31, 2014 from 11:15am to 3pm
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to hop on a bike and safely travel to key destinations in Lane Cove without being reliant on the car or frustrated by parking issues, congestion and pollution? The Bicycle Advisory Committee [BAC] is truly “Reflecting Forward” in the theme of the Cameraygal Festival, with a vision for safe off-road cycling infrastructure. You are invited to share their vision for safe cycling on an enjoyable cycling excursion down the Epping Rd Cycleway to explore the magnificent…See More

About Me:
I am on Lane Cove Council's Bicycle Advisory Committee, attend P&C & School Council meetings at Greenwich Public School and also am a committee member of the Greenwich Community Association.

Professionally I am an Artist, Comedian, Writer, Variety Artist, Hygromorphomatician [artistic harvesting of rainwater to create artificail streams, ponds & waterfalls.]

I initiated the Community Pathways Project to facilitate off-road shared pathways in Lane Cove, as the roads in Lane Cove are considered too dangerous for families in this area & many schools didn’t encourage kids to ride to school. We planned a magnificent off-road route from the Epping Rd Cycleway / Lane Cove town centre all the way to Greenwich Point [ the ferry.] It also included a boardwalk along the foreshore. Part of the route was through parkland between the Lane Cove Country Club [golf course] & residential houses, with scenic views of the city. This has unfortunately not to date received sufficient support in Council.

I am a staunch advocate of shared pathways and OFF-the-road cycleways. I see these as essential to reduce Sydney’s growing chronic traffic congestion. I’m an advocate for kids riding to school & students riding to universites / TAFE’s, etc.

The bike is the main mode of transport for our family - especially for all local [up to 10 kilometre journeys.] Now we have two young children we have bought E-bikes which we find fantastic to assist on the hills & when we have a load, or a child on the back. We have numerous bikes in the garage - mountain bikes, road bikes, folding bikes, kids bikes & bikes. The car is really secondary for our transport needs, & I keep scooters or folding bikes in the car at all times to enable me to park well short of my destination [if I do need to take the car] so parking is never an issue or expense. Indeed cycling is usually a pleasure.
