That was an interesting read Bob (The Fence). Very clever. Perhaps we could all arrive on a rubbish pick up day bike & chain it to a city rail fence all over Sydney, but particularly Central? Either all at once or one a day on a roster. But serious…

I believe the City Council approached City Rail last year about a joint effort to install some bike parking at Central- there was to be bike parking at Devonshire St and Country Station exit by December last year. I think there may be some in Devons…

And as for saying you are going to move to Melbourne.... good luck chaining your bike to the platform railing at Southern Cross Station! To be fair to us, you didn't actually say you wanted bike storage facilities at Central Station when you posted…

Dylan, I think you need to send your correspondence to people who have the power, and those who want it, as previously suggested -- KK, JR, GB and BO'F for starters. I don't think you can expect other people to jump up and down on your behalf unles…

Dylan, instead of preaching to the converted, your time and efforts could have been directed to the appropriate Minister - someone who may actually be able to get things done. :-) Lobbying organisations help the cause, but so do individual approach…

Some common sense at last. Thankyou Mark. My post was never intended to be about what if's, the inner workings of OH & S legislation or anything else for that matter. The crux of it all was that our central rail hub makes NO allowances for bikes -…

Totally agree. I don't think its obvious at all that you can't chain your bike up on the platform - from the photos it was completely out of the way. As for someone adding the link to a wikipedia article on bike bombs - FFS, if it was a suspected bo…

hence the $200 pickup?

Yeah they definitely do this very well elsewhere. Just think about the endless bike racks at the stations in Japan and Europe. We are a long way off this.

According to the latest Australian Cyclist, Western Australia has a "Public Transport Authority Cycling Integration Manager" who is a long-time committed cyclist. He was winner of the Cycling Promotion Fund's Professional Cycling Promotion of the Ye…

"I repeat. There are NO signs at Central railway station saying you can't park your bike on the platform " I don't think you have much of a point on this one. There are also no signs that say no ballgames may be played on the platform for example.…

What power does Clover have over Cityrail/Railcorp? None, probably, even as local MP for Sydney. KK and Transport Minister John Robertson would be the people to hammer on this issue. Dylan's local MP would be a good first point of contact and maybe…

Yes it is piss poor. You should let the City of Sydney Council know. They are running a mass-media campaign at the moment selling the virtues of cycling around the city. It is no use cycling around the CBD if you cannot cycle to a station to catch a…

I think some of you have been a bit harsh on Dylan. He has obviously, in hindsight, made an error in locking his bike up on a rail platform. It looked from the photos like he chose a low traffic area. The issue of whether RailCorp should have enforc…

Maybe you could use this to your advantage. Just take your bike to lost property each day for $6.40. $6.40 for valet parking each day....not bad (just ask them to do real working hours and hang about after 4:20pm).

Bicycle fleets - why not?

I was wondering whether any of you might have opinions on the idea of approaching businesses and proactively encouraging them to establish bike fleets for their employees. I have lost count of the number of people who have come up to me saying they'd love to commute to work but for one reason or another don't. How about if firms were to offer bikes as a benefit and as part of this they also offerred maintenance and proficiency courses. I reckon half the problem relates to lack of opportunity any… Continue
