I had a truckie smile and wave as he waited for me to cross in front of him on Saturday - I had a christmas tree tied to my trailer :o)

I'm sorry to hear about your accident Kylie. I do think we need to get more frocks on bikes but maybe not so much on racers, There is a movement that has started called Frocks on Bikes http://frocksonbikes.wordpress.com/ which I reckon we should get…

Summer dresses might make drivers polite but refer to my blog to find out what happened last time I wore one on a bike ;-)

I wish I looked good in a summer dress. Maybe thats the safest way to get cars to be polite! But then I might have to shave my legs and I am not ready for that yet. Thanks for the story J, I really enjoyed it, and am heartened that the divide betwee…

Oh cool, in the 40s hah, I'll remember that when mum wants to know where I am. I'll let you know next time and we can both go :)

ha I am reading a book about two girls who did exactly that with their Malvern Stars all over Australia in the 40s. They rode but hitched rides with truckies and farmers whenever they could it's a great story.

Great story! When I rode to Melbourne, the weather in Yass was unsafe for me to ride on to the next stop. I bought a bus ticket for myself and for the bike...$50 each!! I wasn't very impressed with that, but I paid anyway because it was that or sta…

I know what you mean - had a similar interaction not too long ago with a truckie on Broadway. Made me smile all day:) There is so much more to cycling than transport or fitness - moments like these for instance.

This morning I was happily riding my bike up oxford street in a colourful summer dress. I was trying to get in the right lane before Taylor square so I didn't get stranded on the left of the road. A big petrol tanker was behind me but I gave the tru…

I like it! I had a similar situation where I thought someone was beeping quite aggressively at me. As I headed to the passenger window, which was on it's way down, I was trying to work out what exactly to say when the passenger and driver both said…

I had the strangest experience on Sunday while cycling through the city heading along york Street. I pulled up at a red light on the right of a bus. As I sat there admiring sydney's architecture, I notice the bus creep forward next to me. The bus dr…

I just watched it and I'm not sure what to make of it all. The whole segment allows guests to work up each other in a "hilarious" whirl of negativity if left uncontrolled. I think it's fine as long as it is a cute little observation like Claire Hoop…

This morning I met a truckie....

This morning I was happily riding my bike up oxford street in a colourful summer dress. I was trying to get in the right lane before Taylor square so I didn't get stranded on the left of the road. A big petrol tanker was behind me but I gave the truckie a wave and he slowed down to let me in. I continued along fitzroy street and the truckie passed me and gave me a wave. He got stuck at the red light at moore park road so I got ahead of him as I raced down the Anzac Parade bike path. He did get a… Continue

When vehicles start talking

I had the strangest experience on Sunday while cycling along York Street in the city. I pulled up at a red light on the right side of a bus. As I sat there admiring sydney's architecture, I notice the bus creep forward next to me. The bus driver then started to speak to me as his window was now inline with me. He was worried about me getting sunburnt but I reassured him I was covered in sun screen from head to toe. After this conversation starter we proceeded have a nice little chat. He was even… Continue

Changing phases - how to ask the RTA to consider cyclists

Through a mixture of frustration (directed towards the RTA for their lack of consideration of cyclists), procrastination (directed towards my uni work) and determination (directed at me trying to be a worthwhile citizen) - I decided to try and change the phasing of the traffic lights at the intersection of Darley Road and Alison Road. I thought I would tell the trials and moments of inspiration just on the off chance that it spurs you into action in tackling your favorite inconvenience, death tr… Continue

Hi Jacqueline,
Yep, that meeting went ahead. Paul was trying to find out what mapping projects people were involved with, and seeing whether they was any overlapping. Not much more so far. I don't think I have the skills for developing apps. But I'm quite happy doing the grunt work of collecting tracks and entering them into the OSM database.

The world is the right size for me that the moment I reckon :)

There is a lot to read through in that report isn't there? Provided the powers that be listen to feedback then hopefully the outcome will be a bit more satisfactory than the King Street Cycle Way in town.

Also, Friday, Ta for the invite :)
