Bluebell- an Apollo who takes me where I want to go. With mudguards and a rack for the panniers she gets me to and from work.
Leela- inspired by this website, I bought a Bender folding bike from Aldi. A very different riding experience.
Daisy- again inspired by this website (which is very evil for my bank balance), Daisy was born. She has an 11 speed Alfine hub, is a new/old frame and lots of fun to ride.

Announcing the delivery of Daisy, a younger sibling for Bluebell and Layla.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 8:11pm 3 Comments

Daisy was delivered on Friday at Universe Cycles- the amount of effort Gary put into getting things just right was fantastic. Photos will be posted as soon as I work out how to get them from Mr Jen's new camera.

Daisy is a new (but old- Universe have some lovely brand new old bikes and frames are new in the box) lemon coloured Apollo step through frame, but with the new Shimano 11 Alfine hub fitted.

She wanted to get out into it straight away so we headed off to…

Fun cycling- what was your last fun ride?

Posted on November 13, 2010 at 9:32pm 11 Comments

Tonight we decided that it was time to go for a ride for dinner. During the week we'd commented that we'd not ridden along the Canal Cycle path for a long time so agreed that was where we would head. A bottle of wine went into a pannier and off we headed. Given that it was approx 7pm on a Saturday evening, there were few people on the path (though unfortunately there were a few trail bikes). Once we made it to the locked gate on the path to the Prospect Reservoir, we headed back to Pemulawuy… Continue

Some day are diamonds (apologies to John Denver)

Some days are diamonds some days are stones

Sometimes the headwind won't leave me alone

Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my toes

Some days are diamonds some days are stones.

Ok, so I have a bizarre internal soundtrack on my commute- this one seems to come up fairly frequently.

It started me wondering- what is it that makes one ride seem so much easier than another one? I'm talking about commuting here, the route that generally has only minor variations each… Continue

Fun cycling in Canberra (and the teen came too!)

Posted on April 17, 2010 at 10:31pm 3 Comments

We've spent the last few days in Canberra with the official aim of going to the Art Gallery. Despite the grumbling ("I'm not riding!") we persisted with taking Ms 17's bike (as well as her). Our first day we set up camp and then caught up with friends to decide how to spend the day until we had to be at the Art Gallery.

I wanted to ride there and it wasn't hard to convince my partner of this. Ms 17 was "not riding", and so was given the option of going in the car with our friends… Continue

Prospect shared path, "open" again today

Posted on October 31, 2009 at 7:28pm 2 Comments

Earlier this evening we went for a ride along the old canal to see what it was like now the path is open again (on weekends only, at certain times etc....). It was good to be able to get through to Prospect without going through Pemulwuy or around the longer way. Despite the multiple signs warning of snakes near the Greystanes entry gate we didn't see any. We also chose not to dismount, as the signs directed, to go across the short section that hasn't been bitumened (is that even a… Continue

Hi Jen,

I'd be interested to know which map you are referring to. I have done a lot of route research for various cycle commuter route maps around Sydney (as Kim noted in that thread). Is it the Westmead/Parramatta map?

Hi Jen,
Good to know you like the idea of the Ride 2 Eat. As you can see, up to this point there hasn't been too much interest in it. Is there a particular evening which is better or worse for you? Do you know of others that may be interested? What times & distances are best for you? Any feedback appreciated......It feels like I'm trying to organise these in a vacuum at the moment!

Hi Jen - I see you've bought an Aldi folding bike. I was looking at one of those for a while. How is it a 'very different riding experience'?

Steve
