"To add to that, a Shimano mtb  front derailleur has a different cable pull than a shimano road front derailleur, hence the flat bar and mtb front shifters are not interchangeable."

Any thoughts on whether or not a current series 105 Shimano rear d, will work with a Shimano 8 speed chain, shifer and cassette on a commuter? It is a long cage so I guess it can cope with the large cogs. I once remember sheldon brown saying derailliers don't really know or care about how many speeds they are, but I was wondering if the 8 speed chain would be too wide for the jockey wheel/cage?? Be great if it works as saves buying another d/makes use of an almost new 105 that is collecting…See More
