"I am regularly out n about on my bike within the city and surrounding metro areas. I amazed at how many of these units are out there. I witnessed more in use today than I have since their inception. I discover some parked (or left) in the most…"

markysharky replied to noelbike's discussion Bicycle sales slump in Australia
"There are sensible reasons offered here suggesting why overall annual bike sales might be down. But how long will a reasonable bike last? If bike sales have been running concurrent years in excess of one million units, with a relative small…"

markysharky replied to PeterT's discussion Cheeky Transport - closing
"Dabba you are right in saying there was an original Cheeky partner a long time ago. One went to Centennial Park and carried forward Cheeky Monkey, a high end bike store. The other became Cheeky Transport - commuting and travel bike specialists. They…"

markysharky replied to PeterT's discussion Cheeky Transport - closing
"No, the only owner of Cheeky T was Adam. Adam is moving on to other things and for sure he wants more family time - loves his kids. Like many who ideal that they can move out of the smoke and commute reasonable distances, only to find that they are…"

markysharky replied to PeterT's discussion Cheeky Transport - closing
"Selfishly this is a sad day for me. I have enjoyed every interaction with the guys at Cheeky T over 12 years now. Just a cut above, imo. And they built for me a custom ride Surly and sold me a Brompton. Just won't seem the same not to be able…"

markysharky replied to Al.'s discussion Death shakes

markysharky replied to yugyug's discussion Freestyle ride this Sunday 4th

markysharky replied to BikeSaint's discussion Stolen bike (from Bondi) and found bike (Newtown)
"Thanks Bob. I was just wondering whether the bike itself was targeted or was part of a random garage break-in loss along with other valuables."

markysharky replied to BikeSaint's discussion Stolen bike (from Bondi) and found bike (Newtown)
"That's a very distinctive bike. Hard to imagine that it won't be identified by someone in the future. As I live in Bondi, are you able to inform others under what conditions it was stolen? Please."

markysharky replied to tonydelyall's discussion 3/4 length men’s shorts to ride in?
"Over the last years I have purchased most of my bike shorts at Kathmandu. I don't wait until the current shorts wear through, which they do, but am shopping in advance to hold for the ready. I wait for the (every second week) sales and jump on…"

markysharky replied to herzog's discussion Centennial Park incident 12 Sept 2016

An assortment of small wheel and folding bikes. Now there is a place in everyone's cycling life for one of these. A Surly CX flat bar custom build, for when there is a need to be conventional

All my bikes have names. Is that weird?
About Me:
Semi retired... bikes have been a hobby/outlet/passion for 35 years and more. It is about the bike and the ride. Rode with Bike North for several years . A totally organized club with a range of rides for different experiences. Happy now to ride in a relaxed manner and take in the view, whatever that is. Admire people who have an interest in older bikes and present them in their original configuration (where possible). Cycling and its community has been good to me.
Over more recent years, I have developed a penchant for capable small wheel bikes. Having a great relationship with your LBS enhances your overall cycling experience. Mine is Cheeky Transport

I remember when it all started. No, not the exact date, but a time in my life when this all came about. The benevolent gift of being given a quality used hand built bicycle through the hand of a departing friendship could never have foreseen this symbol to become a loved accoutrement to the life that followed.

I was in my twenties at the time. The boom bust cycle of the real estate market had only recently swung back to bust. If not complete austerity measures, then more careful…

Schwalbe Marathon Supremes

Posted on August 14, 2013 at 12:25pm 12 Comments

I was considering running Schwalbe Marathon Supremes on a custom Surly CX (general duties - rider weight 68kg). Thoughts are, 32s on the rear, 28s up front. The question is, does anyone have first hand experience with these tyres. Do they run to stated size, or are they under or over stated spec, as can be sometimes the case? Thank you for any feedback....Sharky
