I bailed. The 10am start was too much tomorrow;) and well I am drained of creative juices this week but I do look forward to a report - its an interesting idea.
yesterday
Just came across this site and thought I would share. Oh to be lugging all those kgs up a mountain right now instead of sitting at my desk! Fully loaded http://www.pbase.com/canyonlands/fullyloaded

You don't need a road bike Cate. Lots of non-road bikes in the 50km and a few in the others too!
on Monday
ooh Adrian...you might tempt Nick to have another go!

I am a 6 bike girl!

I have a Gitane hybrid with all sorts of different parts on it thanks to my boyfriend who just loves pimping my bike!

My new bike will replace my hybrid as my commuter and hopefully as a touring bike if I can get my act together! I am very pleased with how the custom built and painted Europa frame turned out. Stronglight Cranks, Selle An-Atomica saddle (so comfortable), Grand Bois tyres, Mavic wheels built by Cheeky.

I also have an old style Malvern (from the guy who sells bikes at the Hub in Newtown) for getting about the inner west on the weekend - now complete with wicker basket and vintage mud guards - I heart Malvern!

Hand-me-down LeMond road bike (sometimes its great having rich friends who upgrade to a $8k bike). I totally get why people love road bikes now - they are awesome! Its like cheating:) Going fast is fun!

I also now have a really old Malvern Star (Thomas - I think because the colours reminded me of the tank engine:) in amazing cosmetic condition - the rims are just beautiful but the wheels are soft and it doesn't really work. If anyone has any restoration tips - send them my way! The back pedal brakes don't work and the wheels are a bit buckled so it just rubs on the rear mudguard. But it is a thing of beauty and I love Thomas. It was owned by this guy's uncle for 70years in Queensland so there is almost no rust.

Ok so I finally got rid of my beautiful yellow bike (below) but needed to reclaim my status as a 6 bike girl! I accidentally fell in love with this beautiful old Bennett on sale again from the guy who sells bikes at the Newtown hub bike stands. I call it Bennett. How could I resist a bike in my favourite colour? Polishing and matching yellow handlebar tape to follow soon!

(Though admittedly this bike has been hijacked by my boyfriend:)

Bikes I no longer own:
A single fixed gear old yellow heavy steel bike complete with mudguards and basket that I fell in love with on eBay. Unfortunately it was way to small for me (damn sometimes being tall sucks!) so I had to polish it up and resell.

Ricardo step through - found at a jumble sale next door covered in cobwebs and in need of some tyre pumping but polished up beautifully - a steal at $10! I have now lent this to a friend after realising it really was too small for me and that I already have Malvern and that I possibly have a problem with bikes overtaking the garage!

Bikes I someday hope to own:
Well in the end I just get to look at my friend riding this - now I have Europa. The Masi's really are nice looking bikes though.

So pretty....

About Me:
I don't like big hills much (but I am trying to learn how to love them!), love coffee, good food and big dogs. I work in an Arts/Museums institution (HHT) as a web editor and sponsorship assistant. I am also trying to do a part-time PhD in art history but I end up riding my bikes, hanging out and generally not studying on the weekends-so might have to give the books up!

From Christchurch to Mt Cook

New Zealand so far has been a cycling paradise. Scenery that looks like it should have come from a fantasy cycle tour movie directed by James Cameron:) and drivers that give you plenty of room along with generally good road surfaces. Honestly I can't think of more that you would want from a cycle holiday in terms of terrain.

After the first couple of days my legs and bum w… Continue

Postcard from Christchurch, NZ

Ok 7 mins on the computer here goes:

So far NZ is beautiful! CHristchurch has lots and lots of bike shops and bicycle lanes everywhere - it is really impressive. Lots of people on all sorts of bikes around going about daily stuff as well as some pretty hardcore road cyclists around.

Today we went for a practice ride out to Lyttleton (we thought 10km) which turned out to be more like 40km the way you can actually go by bike. It also involved some wrong turns (will

Yeah, I will try to do that for sure, Naomi. I have many memories of the Pyrenees from several trips there, including the Aspin cows, bitey donkeys on the Col du Soulor, and even {shudder} Fabio Casartelli's blood on the Col du Portet d'Aspet in 1995.

For sure, though you may have to put something distinctive on top of your helmet for identification purposes!
