- About Me:
- I love cycling and have cycled in Sydney since 1988. I ride for commuting and pleasure (not always the same!). I grew up in the USA and have cycled in California, New York, Oregon, Washington, DC, Florida and North Carolina and in Europe (France, Switzerland, Croatia, Huganry, Slovenia and Spain).
I moved to Oz permanetnlty in 1995 and I have been on several NSW Big Rides and Bike Vic rides and done Around the Bay, Gong Ride, Cycle Sydney and other great rides.
I have taken my share of spills but the worst was a low speed fall due to a poorly drained cycle path corner that caused a low speed fall where I broke my hip. Ouch!
I regularly ride with a group and would average 100-250 km per week depending on weather, etc.
I am really keen to promote more and better cycling opportunities here in NSW and to bring cyclists back out to enjoy regional areas on their bikes too.

I was riding across Sydney this morning (as part of a reconnoitrer for our City Ride/Spring Cycle) and happily used the Kent Street cycleway and turned on to King Street on my way to Pyrmont. At the cycleway intersection at the bottom of King I pulled alongside another cyclist on a lime green mountain bike (everything was painted green including the wheels!). The fellow had white locks coming our from under his helmet and I estimated him to be in his late 60’s early…

Colin said… - Omar, have you considered that your profile pic is not well-suited to the cause of promoting cycling? Most non-cyclists are turned off by the idea of having to wear special clothes (lycra) to ride a bike, and your profile pic reinforces the idea for them that cyclists are "other".
An image of yourself riding in ordinary clothes amid a typical streetscape might serve the cause better.
