SPRING RIDE - PAUSE - RIDE - STOP - SINGLE FILE - RIDE

Posted on October 21, 2013 at 2:46pm 3 Comments

Thanks to all those who gave up their Sunday to help out with this annual cycle event. But Sydney, we can do better.

Imagine the reaction of participants in the City to Surf if they had to stop for traffic lights every few metres, form up in single file in one lane on Williams St so cars could zoom by in the other lanes, run on sections of road not closed to traffic and without anyone controlling the traffic flow and having annoyed drivers blaring their horns and revving to get past…

GREAT MAINT

Yesterday I did a bicycle maintenance course with Bike Wise (http://www.bikewise.com.au/). It's supported by Sydney City Council and is free.

I highly recommend it. Ben, our tutor, was knowledgeable and thorough, and he didn't 'talk down' to us. (Bike shops you could take note - no one likes a smart arse)…

My feature article on the Great Victorian Bike Ride appeared in The Australian on Friday.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/sport-active/road-warrior/story-fnc9wiz4-1226536380125

DAY 9 SAN REMO TO PHILLIP ISLAND

Only 40km today but Victoria threw every kind of weather at us - pouring rain, buffetting winds and sunshine in relays. Seeing the crowd cheering us on at the finish was really exciting. I felt I'd achieved something.

It's been a great nine days, some of it tough some frustrating but most of it a joy. Bicycle Network Victoria's tag line for this ride is "A Week in Another World" and it's a good description. The mega-circus we carry around, the…

Hi Pauline,
Steve here from the Great Vic,
Lovely to meet you and John during the week, love your comments, didn't catch your article in the weekend australian.
Was a great ride with plenty of fun people to chat to. For me, the social aspect is just as important as the riding, great to share a laugh and a smile with people you've never met before and probably wouldn't if you passed them on the street...that is the beauty of the Great Vic. That blue lanyard is the glue that binds us together as a kind of secret society (that and those bloody hills!!!)
Have Fun, keep smiling and happy riding....
Steve
p.s. Catch you on the Great Ocean Road next year!!!
