Rob Berry replied to Dabba's discussion What should BNSW and AGF be taking to the Dunc table?
"These three things would cost next to nothing and would almost definitely see the single largest increase in bicycle usage in Sydney. So, I guess that makes too much sense to happen."

Rob Berry replied to Snowy_5's discussion Is there bike storage box on roads in Sydney?
"Those are hook turn boxes rather than bike storage boxes. They only really offer enough space for a single cyclist."

Rob Berry replied to Neil Alexander's discussion AGAIN?
"I agree, BN is clearly a threat and this is the board's response to the threat. Rather than differentiating themselves, though, it seems like it is a move to make BNSW more similar to BN. Maybe that will increase membership for BNSW... but to…"

Rob Berry replied to Neil Alexander's discussion AGAIN?
"For full disclosure, I made an application for the position. I know someone else who is on here did too. We were both told with 48 hours of applications closing that the decision had been made, so as far as I can tell there wasn't an interview…"

Rob Berry replied to Neil Alexander's discussion AGAIN?
"I think this interview gives a pretty clear idea about what to expect from BNSW under the new CEO. "

Rob Berry replied to Jonathan Gray's discussion Windsor to Wyong - is this a sensible idea?
"Looks fine to me. St Albans to Buckety certainly isn't smooth tarmac, but standard 32s should handle it fine."

Rob Berry replied to PeterT's discussion SHB ramp... (maybe)
"I'd suggest putting a couple of decently wide hairpins on the ramp is the way to go - build the ramp stick out from the bridge rather than just running straight alongside it. I can't imagine any elevator design that would ever reasonably…"

Rob Berry replied to Jonathon Troy's discussion ALDI Road Bike
"It works. Its a little clunky on the shifts, it requires a bit more force at the lever to actuate it so the action doesn't feel as smooth as the more expensive groups, but I'd have no real worries about the durability of it."

Rob Berry replied to Jonathon Troy's discussion ALDI Road Bike
"Who says they will be a "problem"? They are just a fact of life. Bikes need ongoing servicing to function well. Cheaper parts often need more attention to keep them working well. Parts wear out and need to be replaced. Cheaper parts often…"

Rob Berry replied to BernIe's discussion Bullitt bikes in Sydney?
"Total pain in the arse to get in Sydney the last time I tried. For a test ride your best bet is one of those on this page who has one giving you a go. Bicycle Garden has one, you might want to get in touch with them."

"Unsurprisingly, I don't. The lock out laws are a knee-jerk over reaction to a small issue, which cynically draws a boundary of implementation to just exclude the casino... Populism and vested interest a plenty there."

Rob Berry replied to Dabba's discussion Ssshhhh! Don't wake Dunc!
"No, horse racing should be. We should follow Japan's lead and replace them with Keirin racing for those who want to gamble their money away. A glimmer of good policy that trumps vested interests today from the Baird government. It's a…"

Frame Building in the USA

Posted on September 13, 2014 at 6:36pm 17 Comments

I've been quiet on here the last few month. I've been busy.

I've spent the last two months in the US, doing a lot of bike related activities - a frame building course, a mechanics course, riding around cities, riding in the mountains, lying in hospital...

I've been a bit slack with my blogging, but have managed to get the first half of the trip up now, covering a few days on…

Where are our bikes?

Posted on May 5, 2012 at 10:36am 9 Comments

I think this one is a bit tough, so I will give you a few clues:

1. These aren't technically our bikes. We had to leave ours at home and rent these for the day but they did the job well, nice light aluminum hybrids with Shimano Alfine 8 Speed hubs.

2. We were about to stop for lunch…

Berry Bike Project

Posted on November 20, 2011 at 10:19am 8 Comments

Fiona wants a new bike, and what she wants she tends to get!

Her Breezer Uptown is great for getting her around comfortably, but after my debut in Audax she has expressed the desire for something a little more suited to longer rides so we can do them together. Unfortunately, there isn't much money to spend at the moment, so we decided it would be fun to try to do it a little cheaper, building it up ourselves using second hand components where possible - it should be quite fun…

Steel is real.

Posted on June 22, 2011 at 12:58pm 29 Comments

This morning I was happy to be riding on a steel frame.

Cruising straight down Enmore Rd at around 40km/h on my newish Fuji Touring, I saw ahead of me near the Enmore Theatre a car on the other side of the road, stationary, indicating to turn right. When I was about 20m from the…

Yep, but Mr O's post is less ambiguous and is clearly referring to a post which has been deleted and it is rather insightful into that poster's motives.

Except as I have just noted, he is invoking your name. Oh well, we just have to get him to delete his post as well.

Or, here's a good idea, Damian could do it!!
