One of the sprockets (19t or 21t) has worn and is skipping on my Veloce 13-29 cassette. Tried with multiple chains and a new cassette/chain is fine so it is the sprocket (or black magic!). Only one…Continue

Adventures With Babies and Bikes of a Ladies Persuasion

Posted on August 28, 2012 at 10:13pm 6 Comments

As any self-respecting cyclist would do upon the news that their first child was on the way, I immediately started investigating ways of transporting kids with bikes. As it was not urgent, I also monitored the large UK based internet stores for specials at the same time. I snagged a good trailer for cheap from Chain Reaction Cycles. However, one of my most enduring childhood memories is of my mum putting a 4-5 year old Si on the bus into town (in a small city in the UK) and my dad meeting me…

Transporting myself by Dutch bike #2, N+1

Kidding, kinda* and pun-fully... Peace out.

*Dutch-esque anyway.

Meanwhile, in the UK

Just a few bits and bobs from the (not always so c)old country...

Saw an advert for Schwalbe bicycle tyres on the back of a bus when being driven into central London from Heathrow.

A different approach than that of the RMS (and I was not actively looking for anything cycling related):

Si, what's the story of this pic? Specifically the sign on the cyclist on the right. Is it a parade? A demo? Or a normal day's peak hour commute in a wintry UK??

It was an anti cruise missile demo in Norwich, UK, circa 1979. My Dad (captain on the trike) was secretary of the Norwich Peace Council). Apparently (I was only 5-6 or something), we were put at the front so as to keep a nice slow pace and probably for a bit of novelty value. The picture was on the front page of the local rag.

My mum cannot remember who the other cyclist is, if she ever knew him anyway. The sign would have been something to do with peace, no cruise missiles, yanks go home or something similar.

It was our family transport (along with individual bikes) for about four years though. No car.

Repeat re your wife and the Spit -

Bad news re the Spit Si.
Was that about 7.20 on Tuesday?
My daughter got a lift into school then and was a few cars back so she saw "a bike accident" ( lots of cars stopped but a 4x4 drove off??) if you need a witness.

I also see that the "lip" between the level of the table drain and level of the road just after the bridge has been fixed. Well I glanced at it today and it looked better.
Anyway hope all is good and if you need that extra witness.....

Yes it was a sloppy bit of work that looked nasty.

Howdo, checked the shed, and with three new pairs of pads plus the new set bought at close to the unit price of gold, I think I am ok for the time being. Thks again.

Hi. I have a goal to do a 300 this year and I think I remember that you do also. Have you done that yet? I've had a look at the cal and can see one on 19 Nov and 30 Dec. I'll be out of town on 30 Dec so am vaguely aiming for a crack at the 300 on the 19 Nov. Cheers.
