Peter Bundy - Bygone Enthusiasm

Posted on May 22, 2009 at 2:42pm 1 Comment

By chance I ended up in Riverwood having seen a client and found my way into Peter Bundy Cycles. Now that's how I remember a Bike Shop! Parts everywhere, nothing too flashy and a mna 'building' a bike, not pulling one out of a box.
Peter was more than happy to chat and his enthusiasm for helping was wonderful. I'd thouroughly recomend Peter..... and the tip for a cheap Thai meal next door was fantastic. Awesome.

Simon, I very belatedly noticed your comment to my blog about tandems. If you are still interested in buying one, I can offer some general observations (only). The reason no-one stocks tandems is that they are a very low volume item and the frames need to be sized to the individual users. A large proportion of tandems are therefore probably custom built -- ours was -- 20 years ago, and those of almost every other tandem owner we know -- which makes them expensive, and you have to find a frame builder willing to undertake the project.

The only frame builder I know who might currently build tandems is Paul Hillbrick (Google him) out at Minto. (But I'm not familiar with many frame builders these days.)

Some of the major imported brands have tandems in their range, notably Trek and Cannondale. Apollo was also importing tandems some years ago, don't know if they still do. Specialist tandem brands available in the US include Santana, Burley and others which will become evident with a google search for tandem bicycle brands.

This link may also offer some useful info.

Happy to talk further if you like. Good luck!

-Neil
